@JiiJii71 - Are those 17" rims? And I like the front hood wrap. How much did that run if you don't mind me asking?

I'm definitely wanting to tint my Prius. I even know where I'm going to bring it. I just have to get my butt into gear and make an appointment.

Tinting and wrapping were done at same time. So I dont know exactly how much it is for each. Nevertheless, I added wrapping and tinting for insurance for amount of 2000€.

Yes, rims are 17” and tyres 205/50/17.

From what I heard, going with larger rims and lower profile tires (i.e. 17" or 18" rims) can cost you about 5% (very approximate) of mileage. This would be due to more weight being concentrated towards outer diameter of the rims which costs more energy to get moving (i.e. stop and go).

I've always been tempted but have seen too many friends who lost an entire tire when they hit a pothole with their 40/50 profile tires. Also to compound the issue, the low profile tires usually cost significantly more than the standard profile (60/70) tires, plus the rims are more prone to "curb rash" due to less rubber being available to protect the rims.

I'll probably go with 16" replacement rims with standard tires but will always be tempted by the 17/18" rims lol.

If I let you use my 4 lightweight wheels & 205/50-17 tires (~36.5 lbs), you would NEVER give them back....

PS, my 2013 Prius v Five sits on OE 215/50-17's.

I did tints at 35% for $200 when buying from the dealer. That is all that’s legal in CT (although most cars with tints definitely have darker). Wish I could have gone darker, but I know people that have gotten tickets for illegal ones.

From my research i'm leaning toward ceramic 3M Crystalline although lots of ppl like the Huper Optik ceramic too.

I've been quoted $820 (all windows) from Rodz (good Yelp reviews) here in socal that included the windshield. It's $200 cheaper for LLumar CRX ceramic.

Anyone have any other recommended shops here in SoCal? Thx!

The Windows Tinting (that's the shop name) in Santa Ana quoted me $900 for 3M Crystaline all around (incl windshield).

The specs for 3M Crystaline are a little better than Huper Optik but it's close.

I understand spending the $$$ for quality items.

BUT, spending ~$900 dollars on window tint would be like spending ~$900 on new 195/65-15 Prime tires....

Yes, but many people spend even much more on paint protection film on the entire vehicle, and then a yearly ceramic coating over that. So I can see spending some $$ on tinting unless it goes completely over the top. $900, I think, is in that over the top category.

One thing i've learned from shopping around is not all tints are created equal. You take a cheap $200 tint job and compare that with the installation of a quality product like 3m or Huper Optik and there's a big difference. You get what you pay for here but yes, $800 is a lot of dough

I paid $160 for my tint and it's perfect. Film is Johnson Marathon MN35, installed in SoCal. Same guy did my Gen 3 with the same film, no fade or bubbling for the 6 years that I owned it.

Nice! What's the percentage (35% all around?) and what rims are those?

pretty good specs for a non-ceramic film - can you share the installer info? That's a great price!

Wheels/tires are take-offs from a Corolla SE. 17x7" +39 with 215/45/17 Firestone tires. No spacers. Handling is greatly improved over the stock 15" setup. Even though the 17" wheels/tires are a bit heavy, I still am getting 150mpg combined and got 55mpg on a 1000 mile highway trip doing 70-75mph.

Tint is 35% all around, nothing on the windshield or lower rear hatch window. Installed by Magic Window Tint in Santa Ana CA. ‭(714) 489-1157‬. He owns a Prius Prime.
