Over the past several weeks while driving my 2012 Prius v I've noticed that the display on the console above the shifter seems to just stop and restart. This is happening intermittently but frequently, sometimes every few minutes. I searched the archives on the forums but could not find any other reports of this. Not sure exactly what's going on. I have not gone to the Toyota dealer on this issue. I will be driving along often with radio on. The display might be showing the nav system map or the fuel economy display. Then, unexpectedly, the display will momentarily go black and then go back to the initial info that the display shows when starting up the vehicle. The radio will temporarily stop/restart. If using the nav system it may freeze up and not update. Sometimes the display will go black for a few minutes and then come back later. This does not seem to affect the driving of the vehicle.

Has anyone else seen this? What might be causing this? Any fix available?

In that case, your 12V battery owes you nothing and its condition needs to be checked.

During Ready mode the vehicle gets its power from the DC to DC inverter, not the 12v auxiliary battery though. The OP is having the rebooting while driving, so it's unlikely to be related to the auxiliary battery.

The OP hasn't taken it to the dealer yet, which should be done. It could be as simple as a loose connector or a bad terminal somewhere, but let the dealer troubleshoot it.

Any possibility of a rodent problem? Rats and mice have been known to chew on the wires in Prius vehicles.

I did notice some insulation was torn out in the area of the glovebox. I did not connect the two at the time - the possibility of rodents and the issue I have described in this thread. I think others have experienced similar problems. See this.

Sounds like a classic intermittent wire/pin/connector somewhere. gonna be a tough one to find, but i would start where the missing insulation was found. try wiggling some cable bundles close to connectors and watch the display for flicker

This happened to me too when I first got the car. Was very intermittent, happened a total of about 10 time, once it happened twice in two minutes. Mine fortunately went away. I tried to find a pattern (bumps, overhead lines, etc) but came up with nothing. Mine just went away. Sorry I cant help further.

I'm still having this problem. I have not been able to isolate the connection issue by wiggling wires as EZW1 has suggested. Does anyone have more details on how they got their similar issue resolved?

Any wire harness maintenance or crash repair history on the car?

No, neither of those. However, I have seen evidence of rodents getting in near the cabin air filter by the glovebox.

We are snowbirds. When we came back from Florida the last two years and drove our old 97 Odyssey for the first time with the heater on, there was a wet dog smell and very little air coming out of the vents. I pulled the fan motor and took a picture. Imagine their surprise when the fan came on. Your friendly rodents may prefer wiring to building a nest in the fan.

No, no fix. Still happens intermittently. Toyota dealer told me I need to replace what they call the 'head unit'. They also told me that part is not available.

Dealership is setting you up for a total of over $4000 in repairs, between the CVs and HU.
