So as you can see I have a lot of codes. The first 5 pertain to the Hybrid Control, P1116 is for Engine and ECT, the next three are for the HV battery, then ABS/VSC/TRAC. The last two I'm not too worried about (lol) they are for the tire pressure and air conditioner.

These problems started when my ABS pump actuator went out. I replaced that and it seems to be working ok. I have the red triangle light, VSC, check engine etc. The car turns on but doesn't go into drive on the first try, I usually have to turn it off and on again to get it into drive. When it's in drive, the battery does not charge properly and the car won't accelerate past like 50mph. The fan for the HV battery is constantly on, and after about 10 minutes of driving the acceleration problem gets worse, seems something is overheating. I am not driving it but this is what happened when I road tested it after replacing the pump actuator.

The car is a 2008 with about 105k on it. The only good news is I bought a salvage Prius that is in good running condition so I can replace many parts but I don't even know where to begin. For example I don't want to swap out the HV batteries just yet even though that might solve some of the codes because the battery was working prior to the ABS pump job so something else like the inverter might be the main culprit and I don't want to damage a second battery. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

B1421 just says the light shining on the solar sensor wasn't very strong when you pulled the codes. No issue.

C1259 and C1310 are just the brake ECU repeating that the hybrid control ECU has reported issues. If I remember right, P3000 from the hybrid control may just be "look! you've got battery codes", P0A80 is a common overall battery code, and P3019 may be pointing you at a particular battery block.

To avoid relying on my memory, I'd recommend looking those up (if nothing else, just click the snowflakes next to those two, and the four P0Axx's from the hybrid control, and summarize for us what Techstream tells you they mean; that'll save us all rushing to look up your codes ourselves).

I replaced that when I did the actuator pump since the inverter was out. With the cap off of the inverter's coolant reservoir, there is a good amount of flow/turbulence so I think the new pump is good.

Yeah I took that photo with a g6, cheap burner phone.

Thanks Chapman. The additional info for the codes that had a 'snowflake' next to them are as follows:

    PAO60 - Drive Motor "A" Phase V Current
    POA63 - Drive Motor "A" Phase W Current
POA78 Drive Motor "A" Inverter Performance
POAEF 275 - Drive Motor Inverter Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Low
P1116 Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Stuck for Coolant Heat Storage System
POA8O - Replace Hybrid Battery Pack
    P3019 - Battery Block 9 Becomes Weak
    C1310 - HV System Malfunction

Is it possible I have a bad battery and an inverter problem?

Well, the P0A80 (those are zeros, not Os) and P3019 paint a pretty common picture of a battery in need of replacement, with block 9 serving as the canary.

C1310 comes from the brake ECU but only means "hey, I heard there are some codes over in the hybrid control ECU".

That cluster of motor current and inverter performance/temperature codes is kind of fascinating, I don't think I've seen it on PriusChat before. The next place to look would be in the Repair Manual (more info), to look up each of those codes and find the workup sections for each one. On the first page of workup for each one, there will be what's called the "detection condition", which is the real explanation of what the computer saw that made it set that code. (Those Techstream one-liners like "inverter performance" are more like fortune cookies or memory jogs than useful explanations.)

The cluster could point to an inverter problem, but that's a bit of bother to replace, so I would probably spend a little more time following through the troubleshooting workup steps before just deciding that has to be it.

I suspect the inverter was not put back properly when you replaced the brake actuator.

And while the car was out of commission, the HV BATTERY went out of balance and failed.

If you have the parts, replace both the inverter and hv battery. Pay special attention when you are removing it from the salvage car, so you can see if you've made an error when you reassembled your car after the repair

Good stuff, thanks again. I'll get my hands on a repair manual and try to learn more before starting. I'll follow up in a day or two.

Thanks for your reply. Regarding the inverter, I had to remove it twice because the first (used) abs actuator I replaced with was also bad. The second time I had it out it got rained on when I ran to the store 5 minutes away to buy something, plus I think a couple of the small electrical connections got some rough treatment from me while removing them. It was after the second time it was out that I got all those weird new codes. I took it out a third time thinking that I must have missed a connection when I got all these codes but there were no missed or loose connections.

I also suspect that the HV battery might have gotten messed up from the down time.

I gotta hand it to you, doing the brake actuator twice. I'm having anxiety just looking forward to my first replacement LOL.

Did your first replacement come from a wrecked Prius?

Yeah it was from a junk yard. I paid like $140 for it which was kind of a red flag because most of them were in the $250 + range. To their credit they sent me a 2nd one for free. In light of the problems I had I probably would have bought one of the remans from Dorman.

This is a pretty big repair. You have to make sure all is put back together properly. Then you have to have techstream to bleed the brake system.

Thanks again all for the advice. Its been about a week since I swapped the hybrid battery for another used one. That fixed all of the codes except for the P1116 and the code for the tire pressure sensors. I replaced the coolant control valve, that doesn't seem to have solved that problem however as I still get the code. Anyway a big improvement and happy to report there was no apparent issue with the inverter despite the codes suggesting that there was.
