Prius has been misfiring. EGR pipe cleaned, spark plugs changed, ignition coil changed. My mechanic thinks it's contaminated gas. He suggests running it out. As it misfires once I hit 15, and not while idling, I thought about just turning on maintenance mode and idling the tank out. How long can I safely leave maintenance mode on? Any idea how long it'll take to idle out half a tank?

The all too common high mileage gen 3 misfire. I hope your mechanic is right but out of all the misfires I’ve read about I have yet to read about one due to contaminated gas. Did you clean the complete egr system and did this happen before or after the misfiring began?

I cleaned the pipe and only cleaned the EGR valve as far as I could get the cleaning straw in. I didn't take it off. It started after we cleaned it as soon as we put it back together.

Can I siphon gas out? I don't want to jump start the fuel pump.

You need to clean EVERYTHING between the EGR connection to the exhaust, through to the intake ports, and install an oil catch can.

    It's a design fail.

Per @bisco : how many miles?

Watch all the relevant @NutzAboutBolts videos, pinned at top of 3rd gen maintenance forum.

Do that first, leave the gas siphoning for later.
