    Why Do Canadians Say ‘Eh’?

    I'm sharing this just because of this.

    is it the whole country, or just certain parts?

    seems to me, in the usa, there are different colloquialisms in different area's

    i do hear it a lot in the nhl

    My Canadian friends ask me, "Why do Americans say, "Huh?" :LOL: I confess that I kind of like "eh." "Huh" just sounds uncouth by comparison. Not that I'm ever uncouth. "WAIT!! Pull my finger!" :ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO:

    When we went to the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, there was plenty of “eh” to go around;).

    The hockey and curling events had it rampant (y).

    The trucking in of snow to Whistler was particularly endearing :).

    But 50’s in the city was another perk of Vancouver being chosen;).

    It is my opinion, being somewhat impartial for having lived a roughly equal amount of time in Canada and the USA, that Canadians purposely overuse the expression "eh" to emphasize their uniqueness as Canadians, when there otherwise may be not enough to distinguish themselves from Americans. If you ask me, it comes from feeling ignored and disrespected by their much larger neighbour (neighbor) to the south.

    It might be nice for some of us that are out here if they did. Land is very expensive and could have saved us some coin;).

    The land my folks are on has been in the family for over 200 years:).

    Would be nice to have that out here in the Bay Area (y).

    Lot's of "eh's" going around the two years I went to school in Langley, BC. Lots of rain, too, eh? But, MY was it pretty when the sun came out!!!!
