I know this might be a silly question as the prius crowd doesn't strike me as a very gun toting bunch, but hey, I am so there's probably others...

Anywho I was wondering if anyone has mounted a holster in the cabin under the dash, next to the seat or anywhere else. if so can you share pics of how well it came out and tell me how easily accessible it is when sitting in the driver seat?

pics of examples in other cars.

No mount here, but I always have my mouse gun(TCP) in between my passenger side seat and the console while I'm driving and my Sig P220c on my hip.

It stays on my hip unless I have to go into a government building or some other place I can't take it. I wish the gen 3 had a good a hiding place as the gen 2 did.

Just got a Safariland holster for my Glock 23. Plan on mounting this weekend. I'll make a DIY guide.

WetOkole seat covers offer a pouch on the front of the seat. Not quite as secure as a holster but it should keep your weapon where it belongs through most jostles and bumps.

Did you ever get around to mounting that holster? How did it work out? I also have a Glock 23 that I want to mount in my Gen 4 Prius.

In Los Angeles county, that would be a prison sentence.

Yea, yea, yea, better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 - whatever.

Yes, I have heard of the extreme paucity of permits issued in that county. Gotta be a VIP, not sure even high value campaign contributors get them, like some other counties. But shouldn't they honor permits issued in all other counties of the same state?

In my state, the last I heard (and it is now stale information), about 8% of adults have the required permit. The local rate is significantly lower, about half that, but the populations outside the Seattle / Puget Sound metro area make up for the difference.

My Prius is a company car, so I would never....ah...."be caught dead" carrying on the job.
HOWEVER (comma) if I were to do so then I would use something like this:
    Left ankle holster, cross draw.
Fits either my M&P Shield (.45 AARP) or the Taurus 9MM.
Concealable, and surprisingly easy draw stroke....even in.....ah......something about the same size as my company Prius.......or so I'm told.
Since I live on free soil, I also do not have to worry about leaving the weapon inside the car in 33 states....and I have NO PLANS on visiting any of the other 17 anytime soon!!!!

I prefer to have the weapon on me. I, too, try to avoid the places where only criminals can defend themselves.

I tried a lot of holsters. I stopped trying when I got this one. Extremely comfortable. It's a custom fit, so I'd need another one if I had more than one carry weapon.

    Yeah.
I often carry @ 6 o'clock, but only on very short drives followed by very long walks....or if I'm in a sketchy area doing something like pumping gas. I also have several outside holsters and will sometimes pull out my shirt and shift from the ankle to a very conspicuous (to a trained observer) 3 or 9 o'clock carry position....situation depending.
I generally do not like ostentatious carry, but sometimes...... ;)

The carry community likes to argue even more than the car community and the appendix carry versus SOB (small of back - or 6-o'clock carry) debates are long and heated. Since all of my every day carry (EDC) pistols have, and I assiduously use, frame safeties I'm a good candidate for appendix carry - but it doesn't seem to work well inside a car, and even WITH a frame safety I'm not comfortable with appendix (or in my case, gall bladder) carry.

IMHO if you do not regularly practice your draw stroke, on a live range with live ammo then all of the arguments about safety and combat tactics are rather pointless....and for VERY obvious reasons, most public gun ranges do not like it when "digital experts" try and do the Wyatt Earp thing on their ranges.

It's like the great oil debates waged by people who trade out their cars every 4 years.

So....I find myself more and more an ankle carrier, since I practice shooting less and less.

What I give away in access I gain in safety (always my #1 priority!) and concealability...AND I can wear my shirts tucked in.
Plus....access inside a normally-sized car, as stated above, is about the same.

Once, when I was at a public gathering and wearing a jacket a friend patted me in the small of the back while we were doing the grip and grin. He smiled at me and said "Just checking!"
...I lightly tapped the his leg with the left ankle holster and, smiling back at him said....
    "Check again!" :D

You might try asking in the Gen 2 forum.

    No.
I'm not trying to be a forum sheriff, but the G4 community may not have enough time in type to give G2 recommendations, despite the fact that many current Prius owners are former Prius owners.

@jerrymildred might weigh in since he's "officially a gen-u-wine" Prius mechanic.

    Best!

Maybe so but I was replying to the specific posting on this forum.

That's a secret. Don't want to publicize to the car prowlers where to check first.

@fuzzy1 made a great point. Wouldn't be much of a hiding place if I put it out where everyone could see it and PM's don't seem to work for me (and many others) here anymore. (But I can reply if you can initiate it.) I'll just say that it's pretty convenient, out of sight, and probably unknown to anyone but a Gen 2 owner. But it's only big enough for something that would be a good size for concealed carry. For example, I don't think a 1911 would fit.
