$2,000 plus or minus. They claim that all the paid by Toyota maintenance they would do adds up to about $1,300 and therefore it would really only cost bit over $700 for all the extra warranty coverage and roadside assistance etc. This was for the premium package I believe.

    Any thoughts?

Pass. You can get that maintenance done elsewhere for less than the dealer, and the rest of the expensive stuff already has a long warranty. AAA has better roadside service.

Pass on the AAA as well. State Farm offers towing, etc for $10 a year.
Plus here in Oregon AAA is anti EV. They sued the state for using tax money as EV incentives which is holding up the dispersement of funds to people who already bought EV's.

Those warrantees are priced for the company selling them to make a profit. SO, the odds are against you.

I'd only consider it if you confirm that it's actually a Toyota warranty. My dealer tried to sell me a similar sounding warranty that was actually by a third party. I read through what was covered or not, and basically every expensive part was excluded. Headlights, other exterior lights, several important drivetrain parts, etc. I think the way they presented it was a long list of what specifically was covered, so it wasn't clear what was NOT covered.

it sounds like a warranty/maintenance policy? never heard of one. i'd want to see it all in writing, what's covered, what's not covered, what maintenance, how long, etc.

prime doesn't need much for the first 100k

Separate prepaid maintenance from a prepaid service contract. (The only honest extended warranty is when the manufacture issues it, usually the result of finding a serious problem on many cars in service. What the lying finance guy calls an extended warranty is a service contract.)

You already prepaid for 2 years of maintenance. That's part of the purchase price all of us paid. Don't buy more. These Primes require very little scheduled service.

Read the factory warranty. There are a few expensive parts that are covered only by the basic warranty, but that's usually OK. Most the really expensive electric drive train parts have a very long warranty. Don't buy more.

But...if buying the overpriced Toyota Vehicle Service Agreement helps you sleep better (note that Toyota doesn't call it a warranty), buy one. Buy only a Toyota VSA, and check the pricing on line before you buy from your local crook.

The finance guy is paid only by commission. If he sells you none of his overpriced extra stuff, he doesn't get a paycheck, thus the pressure for you to buy something. Keep saying over and over, "Nothing extra. Nothing extra. Nothing extra." Whatever he's selling, you either don't need it or can buy it cheaper and better elsewhere.

Hard pass on this. It's not necessary. The car has proven to be quite reliable and the standard warranties are plenty long.

I declined all the extended "warranty" stuff when I bought my 2018 Prime Advanced. No regrets.

For Toyota cars, most of the times it is a waste of money. That being said, it seems Canadian Toyota dealers like to put the extended warranty and prepaid service plan together. All new US Toyota cars come with 2 years 25K miles routine services included in the price of the car. So, in Canada, if you are a type of person who regularly take your car back to a dealer for routine services, then $700 for the extended warranty beyond the basic warranty maybe cheap enough. How long is the coverage for prepaid service part and extended warranty part?

Only if you use State Farm for your insurer. I have found that for the kind of driving I do and number of drivers, AAA provides longer tows (up to 200 miles) than coverage from my insurance company, plus the roadside assistance features.

I got the 125k 7 Year $0 deductible. Since I rolled the warranty from another car my end cost was $168.00
    It was a no brainier.

Also my Rav4 Warranty paid for itself twice over with two repairs

    YMMV

This is a well-worn topic on these forums, I would suggest reading through the other threads to help you decide if you should get one (see Is an vehicle protection plan worth it? | PriusChat).

However, if you do, I'd suggest the following:
    • Make sure what you are getting is from Toyota rather than a third-party
    • Clarify what you are buying. There is a Toyota VSA (basically extended warranty) and a Toyota Prepaid Maintenance Plan (Which plan is right for me? | Toyota Financial)
    • Shop around. The dealership I bought my Prime quoted me $2880 for a Platinum 10year/100k VSA. After calling around, I was able to get the same VSA for $1395.
I personally decided that the peace of mind of a Toyota VSA was worth the price.

In addition to third-party coverage exclusions, there are also problems with third-party bankruptcies and other business failures, rendering the policy worthless before you need to make use of it.

I may be alone here, but I got an extended warranty for my 2010 Advanced Tech Package and it paid for itself after the steering rack had to be replaced as well as some engine manifold oil leak thing.

When I got my 2017 Advanced I got the extended warranty mostly to cover the 11" display.

My 2010 stopped reading the nav DVD a year ago which in and of itself isn't a problem (I use my phone for navigation) if not for the fact that it basically prevented you from accessing many options on the radio. I took it to Toyota, at this point it was out of warranty, the radio part was.... and I'm not joking... $6000, $2000 if I got a rebuilt one. I ended up getting a used one off Ebay for $400. I could have "upgraded" to aftermarket, but I would have lost the auto parking feature as well as some other features. It's not something i use often, but it's a rare feature for a 2010 and I wanted to keep it. Anyway, that also pushed me into getting an extended warranty on my Prime.

In Canada, they package 3 years of free maintenance with the ECP.

As OP stated, it is around $700-900 more to get it extended including the first 3 years maintenance covered.

I did purchase extended warranty of 7 years/160k KM closely aligned with the traction battery warranty (7 Years of roadside included as well). I trust the Toyota Prius brand but electronics this day are very costly.

For me extended warranty is like buying life insurance as a peace of mind. In this case including the 3 years of free maintenance is a no brainer.

I also purchased this : Titan Protection - Protect Your Vehicle from Hazards | Weins Canada which is available in my area to match my 7 years. It is about comfort zone during the ownership of the vehicle.

The same titan package I have used many times on my wife's Lexus. Worth it. The car's dent, flat tire fix or tire replacement, etc.

It is our money, you decide what to do with it and how comfortable you are with the insurance purchase.

I am an IT guy, no talents whatsoever to fix car or even oil changing, I leave it to the experts to do their parts :p

How many years or miles was your 2010 out of the basic warranty 3 years 36K miles? Our old Toyota Sienna's all of the major repairs came after 9 years old and they were all rust related repairs that would not have been covered by the extended warranty even if I had bought the longest-term contract which I think is 10 years 100K miles.
