When charging my iPhone 8 through the wireless charger in the Prius Prime, the phone gets so hot that it stops charging and performs very slowly due to heat issues. Is this the case for everyone? Is it just the iPhone 8? I don't experience this charging on a Belkin QI wireless charger at home.

Is the phone in any kind of case?
If yes does the phone get hot if you charge it with the case removed?

It's in an Apple Silicon case and yes it gets hot either way. But as I said inside the case even it never gets hot on my Belkin QI Chargers at home and work.

My iPhone XS Max gets about as warm as it does on my Belkin at home but certainly not Hot.

Yes it gets hot with a case but I haven’t seen the temperature warning or having it stop charging. Mine is a XR.

Sorry, just how those magnetic chargers work.

There's no air flow between those two surfaces so heat just keeps on increasing.

    Correction:
At one time I had a Belkin but returned it because I thought the phone got too warm.
Apple began selling the "Mophie" charger so I purchased one from Amazon and the phone
stays cooler or about the same as the Prius charger. The Mophie is a 7.5 watt charger.
    Specifically:
Wireless Charge Pad - Apple Optimized - 7.5W Qi Wireless Technology for iPhone Xr, Xs Max, X / Xs, 8 and 8 Plus
PS. The iPhone is in the Apple Leather Case.

I have to take my iPhone XS Max out of its case in order for it to sit flat against the Qi charger surface. If I have navigation and the screen on it gets extremely hot, enough so that I avoid using the Qi charger. I don't fully understand why because I use an Anker wireless charger at my office desk and it only gets slightly warm even with the phone case still on.

I have an iPhone 8 and when charging on the Prius Prime wireless charger it just gets warm which is normal and I have had no issues with it stopping or the phone overheating. Have you tried charging another phone in your car?

    iPhone ?

I have pretty much the same problem with a Samsung galaxy s7. Works fine on other wireless chargers but overheats pretty quickly and I get the squeaking noise and flashing lights that I think is the warning sound for being overheated.

I've stopped using it which is a shame and use a plug and a 12v socket adaptor. The usb port seems pretty slow

When I first bought the car, I used the wireless charger several times with my old Nexus phone. It had no heating-up problem but was so slow charging I quit using it. Now, I have Pixel which has no wireless charging I no longer use the wireless charger in the car. I now use 12v car charger capable of delivering 45W PD for my laptop, I can get my Pixel charged from near empty to almost full in less than 1 hour in my car. The Qi charger spot is now used for loose coins and small items exclusively.
