Just got my first prius

    I ended up trading in my 2012 toyota tundra rock warrior because it was costing me $800-$1000 a month for gas because of my new job requires me to go sometimes 3 hours from my house.

    what I bought?: I ended up buying the 2019 XLE AWD-e prius, averaging 64mpg right now and haven't had to fill up the tank yet, its so strange not going to a gas station literally every day lol. If you guys have any tips for me being a new prius owner let me know for sure. Loving it so far, it's got enough pep for the highway and the gas mileage is awesome. I will be reading lots of the threads on here to learn about this new vehicle.

    For new Prius owners (and new hybrid owners), we usually recommend the “just drive it” mantra for the first little bit (the length of time depends on the owner) as it can be overwhelming trying to learn all the displays and information. “Just drive it” lets the owner just get a feel for the car on its own and establish a baseline mpg from which they can improve.

    Once you get comfortable with the vehicle and want to improve mpg, then they can learn about the Pulse and Glide technique for city/country driving and Super Highway Mode for highway driving. Of course the owner can pick and choose what they want to do and what they feel comfortable doing for improved mpg (such as reducing the load on the climate control but raising the temp in the summer and lowering the temp in the winter, or increasing the tire pressure for lower rolling resistance but at the expense of ride quality and so forth).

    On the flip side, if you’re a modder, head over to the accessories & modifications section or the audio and electronics section for tips or to ask questions.

    Just drive it - the computer mainly tries to get maximum economy. Just the normal economy tricks like trying to predict Red Lights, not accelerating too hard if avoidable.

    First fill - can be a bit hit&miss on occasions - the car has been doing a lot of uncharacteristic driving in depots, showrooms, workshops - and often isn't quite filled - just enough to look like it's full. Fill it completely and then work it out.

    Dude, seriously the savings in gas alone would pay the monthly cost of the car.

    Yes, the Owner's Manuals have lots of good information - and are good bedtime reading.

    You can download it from TOYOTA in PDF form too - which is handy if you want to search for something.

    Loving it so far, averaging about 64mpg for my commute into boston so i'm liking that lol.

    I was spending about 800-1000 in gas a month for the driving I do, I've had the prius for a week now and put $10 in it so far ( which got my 185 miles to go) Plus my truck when I traded it in basically paid for the car.

    Might throw a copy next to my toilet
