No, a friend who owns a title company repo'd it. He said the guy drove it in when he gave him the title loan. So sometime between the repo and the loan, the vehicle was picked up dead. It sat in a tow lot for several months. I thought it might be a fun project...I paid $500 so not a lot at stake.

it might be worth your while to invest in tech stream. it's cheap, but you need a compatible laptop.

you're asking us to guess at what it will tell you for sure

What all do I need to run tech stream? Do I need OBD reader?

I will look into it. I find it helpful to add to the forum issues like this. I cannot tell you how many times forums have helped me resolve issues. I think documenting these items in the forum and having a community help out lends so much to this website and helps so many people in the future with similar issues. I have appreacited all the feedback and suggestions and they have helped me greatly. I am sure a computer software could possibly help but I doubt it will replace the experience some of the members of this forum has.

I am not asking people to GUESS...I have provided detailed information and the people that took the time to respond helped me get the interior electrical back up and running and helped isolate the fuel issues and with a little luck might help me get this car started. So while I will act on your suggestion and check out your software and use it, please note my appreciation for the skills and knowledge of the members helping me get through this.....

I would be interested to know how the software you mentioned is different from OBD2 apps. I noticed several new troubleshooting apps for Prius in the android store. Does it provide a deeper scan of the car?

I do not want to get off subject. If anyone has any other suggestions please feel free to share.

you can also use torque, dr prius, hybrid assistant, etc., but hey won't get everything exactly right. so, most of the time they're fine, but once in a while, misleading.

tech stream is toyota proprietary software, what the dealers use. there are so many computers in these cars, no other old can capture the information as perfectly.

One thing to keep in mind is that any time you disconnect and then reconnect the 12v, the fuel level will indicate one flashing dot until it recalibrates itself. This could take 5 minutes or 5 hours. One of those weird things.

Another note, once the car dash "READY" indicator is lit, there's no need to be pressing any more buttons. The car is ready to go. Put it in gear and step on the gas.

Are you certain you're using correct sequence for putting it READY?
Foot on brake, press power button one time.

Thanks you...I actaully pressed the button a second time. So I will repeat the process, give it time to reset and see if we can't get the READY to appear again. Thanks guys!

Get techstream and a mini vci. It’s the best tool for the job. As stated above foot on brake petal and 1 push of the start button. If the ready light is on it should be driveable. How many bars are on the battery symbol of the MFD?

2005 battery and sitting for several months is not a good combination. How good are you at car repairs?

Quick update: So I unplugged the batteries and let it sit for 10-15 min. Plugged them in and let it sit another 10-15 min. Pressed the start button and saw the READY and was able to shift into drive but nothing happened. I noticed the Break indicator light was on the entire time. There was still the big Red Trianangle. Since I was able to shift into drive, do you feel it might be the larger battery unit?

The battery dropped to one bar in the Main Display area. I build hot rods and flight sims so I am pretty good at both electrical and mecahnical and software.

Did the engine start at all, or even try to start? At 1 bar the engine would start up and charge the battery, even in park with the ready light on.

sounds like you need a grid charger, or open the battery and table the bad cells with a hobby charger. good time to look for corrosion and clean that up as well

Is there anyway to charge the larger battery cell. I am just wondering with this thing sitting so long if it might not be dead.

You just answered my question...I failed to see the above the response until after I submitted the question. So at this point iI am off to checking the larger battery unit.

Ok so I opened the larger battery unit with the cells. I checked each cell. They all read 7.45V except for two. The last battery (closest to the orange plug side) reads 7.01v and 5 batteries down reads 6.17v Would you consider these two batteries bad and needing to be replaced? Would this stop the car from starting? Is 7.45 good for the other batteries?

Also if I purchased new cells for these two batteries, would i need to buy them with similar volt 7.45 or could I put a higher volt units in?

I don't think this is the cause of your no start issue, there's something else causing the issue.

But the 2 modules you pointed out are bad, anything under 7.2v should be replaced. Although the proper way to see if a module is bad is through a load test, voltage readings don't really tell much. It's better than no reading at all though!

If you want a lasting repair, you would have to recondition the battery with a few charge and discharge cycles. Replacing bad modules with good modules can be very unreliable.....also known as whack a mole repair.

Thank you for the response. i will perform a load test as you suggested. I will take care of these two cells and atleast we can take them off the list of possible problems. Narrowing it down. Thank you and please share any other ideas.
