Thanks for the links to battery warranty information. The first one states that they must be installed by the dealer. That either adds to the cost or if DIY negatively affects the warranty duration. Google searches for truestart show some unhappy people that paid a lot more to replace it after three years than they had anticipated. The partial replacement cost along with another labor hit surprised them. I'm not around any dealers enough for them to know who I am, much less do me any favors during a battery warranty replacement.

I am not sure what the warranty period would be for DIY sales.

The battery you get from the dealer today may be very different from the one that came with the car. I wish I could just grab a truestart, install it myself, and not have to think about that battery for several years. I would have liked to get an Optima for $160 and another six-year run.

That Bosch is currently $150 and has a four-year replacement warranty that doesn't require dealer installation.

I read the dealer link in post #21 as follows: The fourth column in the table is labeled "Over Counter Sale Warranty Reimbursement %". That is the applicable column if you buy the battery from the dealer parts counter and install it yourself.

The warranty is actually exactly the same for both except that dealer-installed batteries get 2 years of labor coverage. The third column is dealer-installed warranty percentage, the fourth is user-installed warranty percentage. They're the same either way, just the dealer installation covers 2 years of labor.
