$32,008 Out the door with tinted windows, premium mats, connectivity kit, premium protection package
$500 Customer loyalty check from Toyota
    $31,508 final price

We wanted an Advanced or Limited, but we could not get better than $38,000 out the door. Just can't see where the additional tech is worth $7,500. We'll end up at $27K after ITC. Not bad for this and we just did our first fully electric commute!

Are you buying in VA or CA? I saw your ZIP was in VA. I'm shopping in the Baltimore / DC / VA area at the moment and your price looks pretty good from over here on the East Coast. Your dealer junk fees at only $85 is really low, too. How many dealers have you gotten competing bids from? I've just started the process and I haven't broken into the 24's on a subtotal for a premium, yet, but I'm getting close with little effort thanks to that $3,500 rebate that's available.

I decided to pull the trigger on my deal tonight. It's OK, but not great. I figure it is still another data point others might find useful. Inventory was starting to disappear quickly unless you are looking for silver. I wanted a color that stood out a little more I guess. The dealers around Maryland were starting to trade across state lines to pick up extras so they could apply the extra $3,500 discount the surrounding states could not take advantage of and some were being sold before I could make a trip out to take delivery of mine. California seems to have PLENTY of inventory left, on the other hand.

    2019 Prius Prime
    Exterior Color: Blue Magnetism
    Interior Color: Moonstone
    Carpet Mat Package $264
    Security System $359
(I had to look this up, but it is a factory option that gives you the glass breakage sensor)

    MSRP $30,309
    Dealer Discount $1,602
    Manufacturer's Rebate $3,500

    Subtotal $25,207
    Processing Fee $300
    Non Tax Fees $331

Total with junk fees, before sales tax $25,838
I will not be talked into any extras of any kind, warranties or otherwise, if they attempt to do so. I have found Ebay to be a great alternative if you want something like a set of factory all weather floor mats for snow. Car dealers from around the country will sell genuine accessories for under invoice if it is something you can easily install yourself.

I'm buying out of state, like I did last time I bought a car. I probably don't pay tax until I get my permanent license plate after the 30 day temp tag expires. The other bummer is the minimum requirement for a state tax rebate of $1000 requires it to be 10 kWh minimum. Prime's is only 8.8 kWh, so I only get $4,502 federal.

Final thoughts: It still doesn't make sense to me to buy these cars used, even in my case with no state rebate, and an "OK" deal. I looked for awhile, but couldn't find anything that was selling at what I would consider an appropriate discount for mileage/age, less the $4,502 you lose in tax credits. Local prices in Western PA are a joke. Listing at $589 under MSRP after 2020's have arrived isn't going to get anyone to even look at your Premium model at over $30k. I have no idea what they are doing, but PHEV's are basically "rare" finds with only 1 at a dealer if you're lucky. It's the same with Ioniq PHEV's. Insurance seems to be very good/low rates on Primes adding to the low cost of ownership.

This is from dealer CA but I will buy and register @ VA since this is where the car will be use.
Out in VA, I see low 26k and think it way high ...still push the # down.

Oh okay. You are a VA resident. Above you said you were paying CA sales tax. That's not how it works. Tax will be based on the garage location where it is parked, not where it is bought. If the dealer does charge CA tax, make sure you leave with all the proper paperwork to apply for your 7.5% - 5.3% = 2.2% tax REFUND when getting license plates in VA. Some dealers don't charge tax at all to out of state customers, but your net tax will always be VA's no matter what.

Are you going to have a commercial trucking company haul the Prius Prime roughly 2700 miles? How much is that, plus the plane ticket going to cost? I agree that those low 26's listings aren't good for Premiums on the east coast, but I got low 25's with almost no effort just by telling them I was shopping their local Maryland competitors. It seems to me like these dealers out east realize they can price about a thousand or so higher because you won't be able to get a California car across the country for less than the difference. Now, if the prices are firm in the 26's for some reason (they shouldn't be with this $3,500 rebate) and you can push a California dealer into the 23's, it could be worth your effort depending on how much you value your time commitment to such a task. If you're on some hunt for a specific color / option combination that's hard to find, that would also tilt the advantage more toward a California car.

Make perfect sense there:I do not plan to buy @ CA it due to complication of -insurance/tax/bla bla bla ...

Plan is to get this baby into correct figure at VA dealer (or MD- or anywhere near ) and drive home :)

So you are also thinking push lower ? I think they have room to move those 2019 so I will try .

    TIA, Dong

Smart move. I entertained the idea of purchasing in CA but the tax situation wasn't clear and I received different responses from each dealer. At the end of the day, after shipping the car I stood to save $500 at best. It wasn't worth it for me.

Hi Guys, This is my first post so big HELLO!

I am currently looking for a car for my wife, she has just emigrated to the South Bay Area.
I have started getting quotes for a new prime as we would like to take advantage of the tax credit.
Coming from another country I really dont know a good deal from a bad and also the OTD price vs the price you pay
so would appreciate any guidance on this.

    hello and welcome!

#1 seems like a good deal, dealer must be discounting $2,500.

#2 seems like a mistake. should 32k be for a premium?

#3 is not a prime, it is a non plug in prius.

otd simply means the price of the car, plus all taxes, registration and dealer fees. the prices you are showing are just for the car, and that's important to know what you are getting for discounts.

but get the otd price before deciding. it is the amount you will be bringing the check in for.

Yeah, that Dealer Discount does seem generous (to me, anyway). That said, I am not sure it is an apples to apples comparison with my experience. I have an anemic by comparison $1,602 dealer discount. But, my car is a Premium not a plus. As much as I'd like to ignore color, I get the impression dealers do try to price differently on some colors because they are low stock and there obviously aren't any more 2019's being produced. Mine is that Aquaman theme. The blue with the moonstone leather seats that look like an Orca. I guess I am embracing the polarizing looks and going all in. Most importantly, I am buying in Maryland. East coast prices ARE higher than California across the board. These are all made in Japan and California is enjoying the fact that they are the port of entry. California inventory levels are MUCH higher, too. It's supply and demand. I expect I won't see hardly any primes where I live in the Pittsburgh area. There are a lot of Teslas, though. I can't swing the price difference this go around to get a base model 3.

I haven't seen my car in person yet, but I pick it up later today. I'll have to pollute on the drive home, unfortunately. I'm maybe a third of a tank away. I thought it would be fun to play a game and see what my odometer reads the first time I visit a gas station. Am I the only one who thinks it might be a better idea to only get a half a tank when you do? I'm also new here, so I haven't explored much yet. Just wondering if I need sta-bil in the tank.

The tax seems off? Or does it include the Toyota rebate?

Noob here. Got the below pricing in CO, is this good?

    2020 Prius Prime XLE

    MSRP - 30689
    Discount - 1589
    Subtotal - 29100

    Fees - 626
    Taxes - 2659
    Total - 32385

Additionally, I was quoted this Nano glass option (free repair/replacement on windshield for 5 years). Do you think its worthwhile? Living in CO, I've already replaced the windshield on my other car twice in a year with 500 deductible each time. This sounds good in that light

Hard pass on the glass repair/replacement. You probably have just had bad luck. I wouldn't count on replacing two more windshields on the Prime. Just curious, what's the cost of the Nano glass warranty?
