On the 06 Prius under the steering wheel there are 3 spots for buttons. The first spot is the SKS on off button. The third spot is for the TPMS reset button. The middle hole has nothing. Is this maybe a reset for IPA or something for the Japanese model?

That's the spot for the IID button. It's a somewhat expensive upgrade (package 10 I think), but the Infinite Improbability Drive can be pretty useful in the right situation. I think it's worth the extra $$.

I added a button and rigged it to my ElectroMagnetic Pulse (EMP) weapon. When I see someone driving irradically while talking on the phone, I punch the button and zap their electronics. It also works very well for people with really loud stereos.

Unfortunately, It's impossible to aim. So after using it I have to restart my own car and reprogram my radio presets.

Similarly, what's the third blank for next to the dimmer on the 06 models? I know one is for EV mode, which we don't get in the US. What's the other one?

It's for headlight leveling. The US models have automatic headlight leveling for packages with HID lights. European models have a manual leveling adjustment in this spot.

You must take a real hit on your SOC when you fire that thing. You might want to add a couple of helmholtz coils to direct the energy.

Where did you get you EMP gun? I'm looking for one to add to this mod. http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=2...an+use+this+for ;)

Seriously Does anyone know what the middle blank is for? If there is a button that goes there I want it! I may not be able to use the original function of the button but I would use it for some kind of mod. :D

OK OK  All kidding aside does anyone know what the middle blank is for? Anyone? Lets try to stay more on topic until we get a definite answer. Then we can discuss what we can use it for. B)

Except you can't use just any Helmholtz coils with a flux capacitor. The ones from Wal-Mart won't last long at 1.21 jigawatts. You gotta use the the ones with unobtainium cores.

none. On our 04/05s, we have two blanks since we don't have a TPMS reset button. I think Toyota's just covering itself in case it wants to add more in the future. (A VSC disable switch? lol)

So is this going to be the official answer? Just an extra hole for something in the future? Does any one else have any input?

Maybe it will be a "Core Eject" button when they switch over to true warp-stealth reactors. I hear those can be somewhat unstable, especially near gravity wells. Most people don't know that you can already do that with voice command, although as we're still on 2nd gen drivetrain, it just ejects the battery... :(

    (hehe, sorry theforce)

haha. Don't quote me as being the official answer but that's usually the case with Toyota. They may or may not want to add extra features in the future as prices come down so instead of having to drill an extra one later, they'll just build them all from the start.

e.g. the Corolla. It has two blanks on the left side. It's been blank til 2005. If you got the 2005 LE model with ABS/TPMS and Toyota RS2000 security systems, that's what the blanks are for: the SET button and the red blinking security light.

On our 02 Camry, there are two blanks on the driver's side below the coin compartment. One is for the TRAC OFF button and I'm sure the other is for the power adjustable pedals that were later added.

Come to think of it, Toyota loves to leave blanks. I think the worse one is the new FJ Cruiser. I swear it has more blanks than actual buttons on the centre console.
