My 2010 Post: Oh deer! | PriusChat

OK, so this time it wasn't a deer.

Purchased my 2020 Prius Prime Limited on 7/31/19. Drove it home and it sat in the garage until today. I was trying to figure out how everything works and getting fairly frustrated.

entune 3.0 keeps saying Alexa must be installed in my phone to install or work on entune. It is installed and reinstalling doesn't work either.

trying to do this in the car while on and in park so I have power. Is it normal for the Prius to automatically shut down after about a minute or two? Have to heep turning the car on...

the HUD display simply will not show. Watched the Toyota Youtube on this so I know I am following the correct steps.

So finally i decide I will drive back to the dealer and ask them to show me. My first trip on the vehicle other than driving it home.

When I get to the Dealer, they say take it to the service department and they will help you. So I drove around to service and they also could not figure it out. "He said maybe you need to be driving? Do you mind if I take it around the block?" I said sure. Then as the service guy pulls out another service person is backing another large vehicle out of the garage with a large metal tow bar sticking out of it. Backs right into my car as I watch.

Chipped one light, scratched another, dislodged the front bumper so it is loose and I am sure there are parts broken inside. They now have to schedule a repair and I know it will never be right. Or they will screw up one of the multiple sensors.

the car had less than 30 miles on it.

I had just finished giving this dealer the highest possible score on their survey as I know they get compensated based on 100% positive reviews.

Not sure what I should demand they do to make it right. Anyway after all of that they did get the HUD display working. They said I had it positioned too low. I guess when I tried I didn't move it up (or down) enough.

    :(

I feel your pain. My (first) Prime was damaged during unloading. Fortunately for me I had not taken delivery so I was able to get a replacement. Took a month.
    Best of luck.

You really meant to say Oh- Dealer. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Joking aside, I hope the dealer will work with you till you are 100% satisfied. Of course, your mistake was driving back to the dealer, or any dealer to ask about how to use Entune or HUD. That, I would have never done. Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome.

I guess I was fooled by the sales reps telling me I should contact them with any questions.

    So,
    • Anyone know how to get Alexa to install?
    • Anyone know if the vehicle is supposed to shut itself down when sitting idol/in park (with the charger cable plugged in)
    • Anyone know if I can play Spotify Playlists from my phone?
    Thanks

Yes, if you are in Accessory Mode, it shuts off to protect the tiny 12v battery from being discharged. If you want the car to stay on, put it in Ready Mode.

I have Spotify on my Samsung phone, and I connect to the cars Bluetooth connection and it works just fine. Every time I get in the car it gives me access to my playlist.

Remember that old commercial with the Indian crying about littering. I cry like that every time I read about a Prime being damaged.

wow, sorry to hear it! i can't imagine what went through the service guys head as he crashed your vehicle with you sitting next to him.
i think they ought to offer you about a thousand dollars of free service. if you're willing to go back there.

Actually it was my Autistic son in the passenger side. It was a little more complicated to have him get out so I was outside watching the action. Then I got a thousand questions and worries from my son the rest of the day just to add to the fun.

State your concerns about it. Don't just accept a "free repair" and be done with it. There are legitimate concerns about the repairs. There is potential "diminished value" involved, though if this doesn't get filed as an accident a future buyer (or trade-in) may not know about it to offer less money in trade or resale.

I am assuming, of course, that they will be furnishing a rental free of charge while the car is in the shop for repairs.

Also not a warm fuzzy that the service tech thought you had to be driving (moving) for the HUD to show.

Yeah just file an insurance claim, have an accredited body shop of your choice deal with it. Don't muddy the waters.

Wouldn't that increase the premium? I know it was not the OP who was driving the car, but if he make claim through his insurance, it will remain in his record.

If I had wanted to file a claim, wouldn't I have had to file a police report? I didn't even think to do so.

No. Police report is not always necessary. For some minor accidents, police will not even come to the scene. In this case, multiple witnesses can verify what actually happened. And, I don't think there is any dispute as to who caused the damage. So the insurance company is likely to go after the dealer to recoup any cost. My concern is that even if the insurance company going after the dealer for the cost of repair, the claim will remain on your record and may affect your premium in future. But it may not.

I have had multiple claims on my cars in the past that was not my fault, and they did not increase my premium. So it maybe fine to go through the insurance.

I had contact with the dealer today. (I had to contact them.) They will provide a loaner car but made no mention of my request for an additional year of service to help get my confidence back in using them for regular maintenance. I assume the 2 year Toyota Care is not tied to the dealer I purchased from so I may simply go to the other local dealer in my area for service.

Since it was their service department that caused the damage, I wouldn't accept anything less than a full and complete repair on their dime. If they can't or won't do it, then raise hell till they pay for another reputable place to complete the repairs. It may be a pain, but its the only way to hold dealerships accountable.
