The '14 has the changed piston but not the ring but has a 15 year extended warranty on inverter.
The '15 has both the changed piston and ring but no 15 year extended warranty on inverter.

The piston & ring is presumably a fix by Toyota for the oil burning issue, but is less of an issue vs. the inverter imo.

This implies the '15 has fixed the inverter issue, but it's not a guarantee unless someone an speak on whether or not the '15' inverter fixes this issue.

The bigger issue is the inverter because tens of thousands of Priuses have had them fail Source: Toyota Prius Stalling Problems Continue - Details of Dealer Lawsuit -
Three recalls to fix more than 800,000 cars have allegedly not remedied tens of thousands of reported failures ~ 5-10% failure rate. July 2019

because used inverters are a hundred bucks, and easy install, i would go with the 15, since new piston rings are a real pain

Ah, I was under the impression the inverter was something like $3k. But only $150? Well, back to searching nationally for a '15 then lol.
