so i was driving on the freeway in my 2006 prius and started to lose my power and acceleration. my fan in the back for the battery was on high. I got off and turned of the car. when i tried to start it back up the engine would putter then stall out. that happened twice. now the engine wont turn over at all. car still comes on but engine wont turn on.

Also in the very recent past i would press the gas and it would not accelerate. the problem would quickly go away after i stopped. the same battery fan would kick on as well.

Where is the car now? I'm guessing you had it towed home. If the battery fan is loud enough for you to hear, that usually means trouble. Have you ever cleaned the fan? That would be the first thing I would check, but it is likely that you need to replace the HV battery. If you plan to keep the car, it would definitely be worth your while to get a hybrid compatible code reader and see what it says. I am using this one,
, but there are many similar ones available online that will work just as well. You would also need to get an app for your phone, such as Torque Pro, Hybrid Assistant or Dr. Prius. After reading the codes that your car is reporting, post them here and we can help you with what should come next.

269k on the miles. I was going to check for turbulence but the engine wont turn on. A light came on the touchscreen a red car with ! in the middle. I just got a new hv battery at like 190k. the fan was really dirty the guy told me. he also put a cover on the vent to help stop stuff from getting in.

What is the meaning the engine would putter? Did it die after making a noise? Or you just felt there wasn't power?

I did have the car towed home. i will look at reader. thanks.

the engine came on but quickly stalled out after almost stalling/putter or shacking i guess. now the engine wont start at all

from what i saw on here it sounds like the inverter pump, but i dont know if that would stop the engine from coming on at all

Was this a new battery from your Toyota dealer? If not, I would check to see what kind of warranty you have.

It's possible your engine didn't really start, it was just the battery spinning it to try to start it. In that case, you many not have too many attempts left before your battery is depleted beyond redemption. What is the HV battery State of Charge that is showing on your MFD? Is there at least one bar? Unless the inverter pump also took out the AM2 fuse when it failed, a failed or failing inverter pump should not prevent your car from starting.
