Yes I was pleasantly surprised too. My old 2011 Prius felt very sluggish, but the Primes are quick enough, even on HV mode. Not as responsive as a Chevy Volt or Honda Clarity but alas, we are a Toyota family here. Heck, I even used to work at their Corp HQ out in Torrance for many years before their move.

Anyone get a car insurance quote on competitors (like those above)? I can tell you the Chevy Bolt (with that sub 6.5 sec 0-60mph run) would make my rates go up $302 per year compared with a Prius Prime Premium. To me, that wasn't worth it. My main goal was low cost of ownership. That means saving at the pump and not handing over more for insurance. Going from a 13 year old Civic to the Prime cost $18.80 more per year. Close enough for me. Not sure about the Ioniq PHEV's rates, either, but maybe someone else has been quoted.

P.S. Tire prices are nice, too. While that is not surprising on 15" wheels, it's nice to know you can get great performing all seasons for under $100 each.

Hey can you share the dealer contact information or pm me? I'll also in socal and would like the same deal.

One random question...do the seats in the prime fold down?

I just checked their inventory online and only 1 2019 Plus left but they do have more Premiums - not sure how accurate the website is.

    Yes, both seats fold down.
Note: 2019 only seats 4 but the 2020 seats 5 - for some this is a deal breaker.

You can also try Steven Tran at Orange. He’s the manager I purchased from and will give you a great deal.

$29K OTD is almost no dealer discount on a Premium. Seems odd that they would give a good deal on a Plus but ask close to MSRP - Rebate for a Premium. I hate discussing OTD price because tax rates can vary a lot. Our deal back in June: MSRP $30,643. Sale Price $27,843 - $2500 Rebate. OTD: $27,887 (7.25% Tax Rate) Personally, if shopping for a Premium in CA right now, I'd be looking to pay around $24K + TTL + Doc. Shoot for a sale price of $27,500 - $3500 rebate.

No, the $3500 is regional. AFAIK, Gulf states never had a Toyota incentive . If you want to save money on a Prime, buy it from CA or the Northeast and have it shipped to you. If you don't want to buy out of state, consider the Camry or Corolla hybrids, they have $1500-$2000 cash back in TX.

I thought it was a bad deal, too. I'm in socal in case anyone has a lead on a good deal!

i agree that sounds terrible. The $3500 rebate ends soon so maybe when it's close to expiring they will offer better deals on the Premium. Good luck! I would shoot for something close to 26,250 OTD for that dealer

Yeah, when I was looking last week, PLUS was going DIRT cheap, but the Advances and Premiums were stuck at just the rebate (maybe another few hundred more off).

Also @Steelers86, going from a Forester XT (0-60 to 6.5sec) to the Prius, my insurance was discounted $500! I believe that is a big factor when they give out insurance quotes.

For CA, the rebate jumped from $2500 to $3500 before the July 4th holiday. I believe the $2500 was scheduled to run through the holiday but they bumped it up early. Anyone here waiting until next weekend of after 9/3 to see if they increase the rebate? I'm negotiating on our second one right now but I think waiting makes sense. Inventory seems to be moving pretty slow.

Yes, I'm waiting, probably until Toyotathon in December actually. 2019 might be gone by then but I think the incentives will be good regardless

As of a week ago in So Cal it was limited colors on Premiums with Certified Dealers, with some non certified dealers still had Magnetic Gray but not as cheap.

We used USAA for our financing and they sent us Certified dealers to shop between. When I called other Toyota dealerships not on that list, they couldn't match the discounts. In California for instance DCH Toyota of Oxnard is not a Certified dealer they are part of the DCH auto Group. I'm not sure what the analogy would be for your case in Texas. It may not even be an official thing, but when I called DCH Toyota to tell them they weren't matching other dealerships , they said they weren't a certified dealership even though they are a Toyota dealership. Perhaps just a USAA thing? Though I suspect if you use something like True Car where several dealership call you, it would be a similar situation. I'm sure someone around here knows the intricacies of how the Dealership business works more than I
