Recently picked up a 2007 (bad hybrid battery w 133k) and a 2006 (blown engine with 230k) prius. The 2007 was sitting for a while and the 2006 was daily driven until the motor blew due to lack of lubrication (somebody didn't put oil back in it). After putting the 06 battery in the 07, the car started up and ran perfectly. A short time later, the car seems to have developed many problems. I noticed that after accelerating for a while (usually on an incline) the engine seems to remain at a high rpm even after letting off of the accelerator. The car doesn't seem like it is still accelerating, but it sounds like it. It will stop after about 10-20 seconds. The triangle light appeared on the dash, and the car is throwing a P3000 code. The hybrid battery worked just fine in the 2006 prius. Even after the motor blew, there were no hybrid system codes stored, and the previous owner said the car drove flawlessly. Does anybody have any ideas as to what the p3000 code could be and why the engine sounds like its screaming even when I'm not on the gas?

On your Frankenstein project, the 2007 may have maintenance issues you have to address. It's been sitting so many things could use a bit of lubrication.

    1. Clean the throttle body and MAF sensor
    2. Change out the plugs, coolant, oil, filters, brakes.
    3. Get a Prius capable code reader so it can read all the codes in the car.

What are you using to read the codes? With the proper reader there should be sub codes that would help to diagnose the problem.

    Welcome to PriusChat!!

What device are you using to read the OBD2 DTCs (codes) with?

That DTC P3000 has five (5) INFs (aka seconday or sub codes) associated with it, you should find a hybrid compatible scanner (autoparts store loaner or friendly mechanic) or buy a mini-vci cable and install a copy of techstream (like the dealer).

Knowing which INF could make diagnosing the problem quicker, and potentially save valuable time and money. If you can't retrieve the INF for the above DTC, here are all five of the workups below :

    Workup for DTC P3000 with INFs 123, 125, 603 : https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/Repair%20Manual/04pruisr/05/21bpm/3000123.pdf

    Workup for DTC P3000 with INF 388 : https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/Repair%20Manual/04pruisr/05/21bpm/3000388.pdf

    Workup for DTC P3000 with INF 389 : https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/Repair%20Manual/04pruisr/05/21bpm/3000389.pdf

When at a higher RPM what does the MFD show the SOC being at, it could be bleeding off extra energy from the pack.

I was using a Snap-On Solus to read the DTCs. It did not give a subcode. I have heard about using the techstream software to find more information. I have an old computer capable of running it, but I'm not sure how to obtain the software. Do you have any idea on where I can obtain a copy?

Also, the SOC is showing anywhere between 1-3 bars. I haven't had a chance to get the car up to speed. It's just been driven around the campus where the shop is at. I tried to clear the codes and they come back within 2 seconds, along with the check engine light, triangle, and VSC light (and there may be one other but i'm not sure)

Sounds like the HV battery could be failing, how long was it unused before you moved it into the 2007? (days, weeks, months)

Don't know much about the Solus product, maybe the 'Solus Pro' offers the ability to retrieve INFs (sub codes).

It does sound like that scanner is missing some of the stored DTCs, as you have so many lights displayed on the dash.

You can do a search here on PriusChat or online for a "mini-vci cable", which is an OBD2 to USB cable. The cable costs under 20, and most ship with a copy of techstream, also easily found online if the seller offers less than 5 star support.

Free Download and install Toyota Techstream 12.20.024 on Windows 7 | OBDII365.com Official Blog
You still need a cable but this version will work fine on a 2007
