Oh, I'm very happy with my results and have been for the last 2-1/2 years. :)

If you hate the oil companies as much as I do (worked for Chevron, El Segundo for over 3 miserable years), then you'll love this car's abstinence from gasoline and oil. 8700+ miles on this 6 month old tank, and still have 400 miles of gasoline left. I'm gonna be stuck having to burn the stuff pretty soon; let's see Bakersfield or Palmdale??

Why did you buy a Prime and not a BEV?

Because I have no faith in the electric infrastructure. I'm a coward who wants his cake and eat it too: 2 sources of power, for more possible infrastructure challenges. Also the charging time is far too slow today for BEVs (or at least when I bought my Prime over 2 years ago). Other factors: pricing is too high for good BEVs; I don't trust American car manufacturers at all, having been in automotive sales industry for some 25 years.
The Prime has proven bullet-proof reliable, and for me, it has been the cheapest car to own ever, with virtually no maintenance in 42K miles (with the exception of flat tires!)

    Well... finally!

Never saw the est. miles this high in the first or second summer I had the car. Third summer was the charm. The actual EV-only driven miles has been anywhere from 32 to 38 miles --Volt territory. No battery degradation seen here yet.

Note: Not high-speed highway miles. More local and county sub 55 mph roadways.

Congratulations! I have been trying very hard to get GOM 40 miles display, but so far not seeing it. Cheating to get 99.9miles/kWh on my daily record did not fool the car.

Sure, that's possible, I guess, maybe - if only about 16 times what is common. ;)

I was able to do ~66 miles on one charge. I started in the mountains of Kings Canyon National Park and refilled the battery to full (from empty) on the way down the hill and then completed the rest of my trip into Fresno, Ca. I know this is not the point of the thread but I was kind of amazed that I could drive so far not using any gas.

And that’s a lesser known benefit of a PHEV over a regular hybrid - the larger battery for mountain driving.

Driving to Baker, it allowed me to do 60% of the trip in EV mode as I got to the base of the mountain in EV then up the mountain in HV mode. Regen on the way back so it’s engine off for the downhill portion plus got back an additional 8 miles to use once things flattened out.

My experience driving in Colorado was similar. Going from the Four Corners area to Denver, I was just over 50% EV. Unfortunately, the uphill parts were really low in the mpg department. I we still averaged over 60 mpg on that part of the trip, though.

Summer is over for us. With moderate temperature, I can drive without AC on both morning and afternoon commute. I may see illusive 40 miles on my GOM before the cold settles in.

    Wish you luck. :)

As my current primary daily driver, the Prime already shows a significant decline in its predicted range having dropped by 3 miles in just a matter of just two weeks.
In my experience with EV's, the Prime's instrumentation appears to be one of the most sensitive to slight fluctuations in ambient temps. Conversely and when compared to others, it is also the least sensitive in terms of actual range and performance.

Yes, its getting cold for us here and any hopes of continued improvement are now gone. On a positive note, we did way better this summer. Cannot complain and as always, it was loads of fun. (y)

    Cheers

Yeah, our morning low yesterday was 7℃ (45F), yet with AC completely off in my afternoon commute, I started seeing bit of improvement on GOM last few days. It has been staying in ~38 miles most of Aug. When I have to turn on the heat, that will be THE END.:cry::cry:

This is not well (if at all) known by some sales people. Prior to purchasing my Prime I asked three different salespeople at three dealers and they all told me the plug in battery was separate from the "other" HV battery. Perhaps Toyota missed something in sales force training on this model.

Chevron is the worst. I boycott their gas stations. They have a 70+ year old easement (from Gulf Oil) on my < 3/4 acre property. They will only release it if I cut them a check for $5,000.

    Will they ever come back:whistle:?

I want to know whatever happened to the 2018 Prius Challenge that was to happen out here in the Bay Area:cool:.

    Maybe someday they’ll return(y).
