Any idea why the aux in doesn't work when you use a lightning splitter (charger and audio)

    I have a lightning splitter for my iPhone that has both a charger and audio connection on it. Basically a lightning Y cable. It works fine on my 2007 CR-V, but when I try it on the Prius, the audio doesn't work.

    I've since tried the just a lightning to 3.5mm audio cable plugged into the the aux in, and that works great.
    Sure would be nice to figure it out since Apple gakked the headphone jack from newer iphones : (

    As far as I am aware, the "Plug Present" detection is just a mechanical switch in the jack. Compare the physical plugs of the cable that works with the one that doesn't and see if there is a difference between them. My only other idea would be to try a short extension cable (Male -> Female 3.5 mm) and see if that works.

    Does the phone audio work with a regular, non-splitter cable?

    It's odd, but the same cable that doesn't work with the splitter works on it's own when plugged into a female 3.5mm to lightning cable.
    I tried another splitter from a different manufacturer and it works. Not sure what the difference is..?

    Mechanical fit? sometimes you just can’t get a given cable to land the last click.
