Sometimes when I turn the car off and leave the SKS in my hand or purse, the car will beep 3 times. I cannot figure out what this is. It seems to only happen at home. The only thing different about work or home is I never lock my car at home and I always lock it at work or while shopping, etc.

Can someone help me....and yes, I searched here and I have read the manual and can't find this problem. B)

3 outside beeps usually means the car is still on... other than that I can't think of any reason it should do that

That is the only thing I could find in the manual but the car is off. I even went back out and checked to make sure it was not in ACC or IG-ON and it was not, it was completely off.

My usual sequence of events is to pull in the driveway, put my foot on the brake, pick up my keys or my purse, hit the power button and open the door. All this is done rather quickly in my driveway. Could it be a timing thing? Maybe it thinks I am leaving the car before it is all the way off? The only reason I think this could be the answer is I probably am a little slower to leave the car at work.

Does the bluetooth connection beep? Sometimes my phone will show a bluetooth connection in the house when the car is sitting in the driveway. Today, when it beeped, though, the phone did not show a bluetooth connection.

is this an inside beep or an outside beep? or both?

if it thinks you're leaving the car with the smartkey in hand and the car still on, it'll give one long beep inside and three short beeps outside.

i don't recall offhand (don't do this often) but if you try to do something the car doesn't want you to do (park while still moving, etc) i think it gives you 3 beeps. i'll have to check on that.

don't have BT so i'm not sure about that, hopefully someone else can answer that for ya.

It is outside. My husband was inside the house and could here the beeps so they must be outside. I am out of the car at the time I hear the beeps so I do not know if there is one long beep inside.

I had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago when we were out of town. The culprit turned out to be the charger of my daughter's portable DVD player which she left plugged into the console power outlet. After a few minutes of turning the car on and off, I unplugged the DVD player from the power outlet and the beeps stopped. I normally leave my cell phone charger plugged into the same outlet, but I never had such a problem when I left it connected while turning the car off.

That could be it because I do leave my phone charger plugged into the charger. However, after a quick run to the grocery store tonight, it did not beep at me after I parked and tourned off the car.

I bet you're not turning it off..I know, it seems unlikely, but that's the only thing that would beep 3 times, outside the car, after exiting with a smart key.

    Evan,

I know I turned the car off.

I turned it on and off again at least five times and it kept on beeping when I tried to lock it after I verified that the car was off. Once I unplugged the DVD player, the car stopped beeping and locked when I pressed the black button on the door handle. Perhaps there is some circuit that keeps something on after you turn the car off when an electronic device is still plugged in even though all the indicators are that the car is off.

But I checked and it was off. Wouldn't my battery or mileage be effective if I left in on overnight?

Ok, I'm stumped...There's no reason leaving something plugged in should do this unless they've changed the power point to be always on in the '06. I leave stuff plugged in all the time and no beeping.

Mine is an 05 BC package without any modifications. It happened only once in almost two years of ownership and driving just over 24,000 miles. It never happens when I leave my phone charger plugged in, which is 99% of the time. It was during the one time that the DVD charger was left plugged in the power socket (the player was in the compartment under the rear floor and not connected to the charger). Perhaps Microsoft had something to do with it (joke).

I don't think that I am going to lose any sleep over this phenomena.

My phone charger is plugged in all the time and the car only sometimes does those 3 beeps at home in my driveway...Maybe she is just happy to be home?

Although 15 years old, this is an interesting thread. I've recently had this same exact situation arise in my 2007 Touring. Pull into parking spot, foot is on brake, press the park button, press power button. Car turns off. Open door to get out and before I can stand up, car beeps three times at me, takes a rest, and then beeps three times at me again. I get back in, close the door, foot on brake, start the car, everything normal. Turn the car off again and everything is normal. I go about my business. Until this morning, when it happens, I've only had to get back in the car one time to get it to stop beeping. This morning, 4 times. I did replace the 2032 battery in the FOB the first time it happened a couple weeks ago, just in case.

I also leave a phone charger plugged into the lower dash power port. Sounds like I need to unplug it and see what happens. It's been there for over two years, but perhaps something in the plug is failing, causing this issue. Looking forward to finding out if the problem goes away. Will update.

As you know, in normal operation the 12v outlet does not provide voltage with car off. I used to leave connected an extended rechargeable battery pack for my smartphone, the ones you connect when the phone battery gets low. Not a phone charger but a rechargeable phone battery.

The car did not charge the battery when off but at some point the rechargeable battery was giving voltage back to the car creating issues with beeps, the alarm and not locking doors. I suspect there is a one way diode in the car plug to protect it but when this goes bad the current travels both ways. When current is going back to the car”s electrical system, the computers can not figure out what’s happening.

Obviously this does not apply when a normal car charger is left connected since no voltage can go back to the car. It’s only for rechargeable battery packs.

I don't think there's a diode. Those power outlets are rated 120 watts, so it would have to be a diode good for ten amps, and even if you used something fancy like a Schottky, you'd still be losing maybe two to five watts right there for nothing but making a toasty diode.

I think it's pretty much as you describe all the time; if you have a battery pack there and its charging circuit allows reverse power flow, you just end up powering all the car's things that are powered in ACC mode (chiefly the infotainment stuff, I don't think much else) when the car is off.
