Perhaps it might work better if we both cite our sources with URLs?

Actually I don't see that in the OP.. but I wrote it.
I could have gotten different answers... like Prime drivers are Techies... or futurists ... I am motivated by cost and environment... yes I have disdain for wasting gasoline...directed at the corporation pushing that.

In my 20's to 40's, I had self serving judgemental attitude exactly like frodoz737 describes. But, benefit of getting old/ripe for me is losing such view. As Bob says,

    I would have cited:

Matthew 7:1-3 King James Version (KJV)

7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

just for the record, i didn't see it in the o/p either. we're here to talk about prius, and sometimes that talk revolves around saving money, and saving the planet.
doesn't make us special, but it does make us different than those with other points of view.
some of us would prefer to drive something else, but feel this is one of the area's of our lives where it's worth sacrificing for what we perceive to be the greater good.

I have a Prius for the main purpose of having a reliable car that gets good gas mileage. My others cars and motorcycles fit into your category #1. If you don't understand the purpose of #1, then you will save a lot of money in life!

I love my vettes, but I'm not about to commute 122 miles per day in one. Some people do use these types of cars as daily drivers. I drive them, wash them, and put them back in the garage, so I'm not emotionally able to do that.

I'm the same way - two Priuses (just picked up a Prime as a bit of a toy) and a few sports cars (that see maybe 5000 miles a year combined). I don't have a truck, but I've considered it from time to time when I've had to tow a race car.

If I were to shed all this stuff, I'd probably just keep the Prius Prime since it's easily the most practical car (and selling all the cars indicates a situation where nothing else matters but getting point A to point B). This is not to say that I don't enjoy driving it - it's much less stressful to drive in traffic than a stanced or more expensive sports car (I've been the victim of multiple rear-end collisions and maybe a little shell-shocked from the experience).

As for the advertising, well ... it's all about brand perception right? I always rememer one ad in particular: remember those Cadillac SRX commercials dubbing it the "performance SUV"? People actually believed that crap. Something like a sad 270hp in a body weighing in at like 4500lb ... I mean holy hell a V6 Camry was faster to 60.

One of the best management lessons I've learned over the years is to resist climbing the "ladder of inference" - i.e., thinking I know what's in someone's head based on their behavior. I've tried to apply it outside the job, too, but still fight the urge to jump to conclusions (like assuming the Suburban driver that just crawled up my a$$ and passes me on a double line did so because I'm in a Prius. Maybe the guy's just late for work).

Point is, we're a pretty diverse group car-wise and not the sanctimonious do-gooders a lot of people assume we are (climbing that ladder). If I was, I wouldn't have a '68 Cougar in the garage and a beater '03 Ram in the yard for those times when I can't squeeze 30 bags of mulch into the Prime. ;)

Late to work or not, that's still a D-bag move and pretty illegal.

save $ save the environment myself.

BTW so happy to now be driving virtually gas free to work (NEW JOB).

i do wish the prime had a bit more juice (40 miles vs 30 miles of EV)

While it is true that driving an older car longer has a lower initial carbon footprint it is not true when total life is considered. There was an old myth about a Prius being worse for the environment than a Hummer back in the early 2000s. Lots of assumptions were made to disparage the Prius but when it was looked at by unbiased people it turned out that the single biggest carbon source was fuel and it was therefore no contest. So replacing a 15yo mustang that gets 20MPG with a Prime might seem like a bad deal for the environment initially, in the long run the opposite is true.

At some point you are likely to trade in the older car anyway and doing it sooner for a significantly more efficient vehicle could tip the balance even further in the Prime's favor.

I get that some people just don't like the Prius but they should just say as much rather than trying to make up environmental or economic reasons behind that opinion. I personally don't like big pickups. I don't like the way they look, drive, drink fuel, or much of anything about them. But I don't try to justify that dislike by arguments, I just admit that I am biased against them.

The Prime made sense for my commute. I brought it home January 12. I’ve only purchased gas 3 times, next purchase is soon. 6000 miles , I have average just over 200 mpg. Climate change is an issue and I think people are starting to acknowledge it more and more especially since someone who I will not name is doing everything they can to deny it.
