I used to have all kinds of back problems, then started doing Yoga everyday and after a year all my chronic problems were turned into incredible strength and endurance. But I hear 'ya... Those hernia's, especially in people who have a career in a seated position, will cause chaos indefinitely without a serious effort at core strengthening.

PriusCamper. Well spoken. Please lighten up on calling my statements as "silly". Name calling lowers respecting your response. I disagree with many statements in here. But name calling is not what I am about. Do I sometimes say things that may not make sense to others? Sure I do, but nothing I say deserves dissrespect. Are you cool with this?

whats ironic is that the raw cost of lithium ion batteries has dropped to less than $200 per killowatt hour ... the prius battery is only 1.3kwh so if we only had to replace battery for battery, a lithium ion battery pack would cost about $250. and that price is falling year by year. The expense would come from the electronics to deal with the discrepancy between NiMH and Lion chemistry, need for BMS, and charging/discharging profile.

The company that can do do this will need to commit to massively disrupting the battery market with the latest Li-ion advancements in a way that mimics the electricity demands of all the most previously manufactured battery powered product. As in take over the battery market by leveraging open-source firmware that can create every possible type of electric flow for old devices using the latest low cost super powerful Li-ion and also integrating ultra-capacitors for greater efficiency. Of course most investor are too greedy and impatient for that kind of investment. This is more of something an intelligent government would create as a matter of public works and these days that's no longer available. But if you, or someone you know is interested in furthering this research, please message me.

If I had a hundred dollars everytime someone tried to equate me name calling a person's actions as me name calling a person in general on social media I'd have enough money for proverbial crown jewel of grandma's 2009 Prius with 10K miles on it that she drove to church every Sunday... If you make a statement that's silly, which you've done twice now, that doesn't mean I'm name calling you the person as silly. There is a difference you know. But maybe I hit a nerve in a way I'm not aware of yet, which is also common. :) Point being last I check name calling a person is wrong, name calling a person's "statements" is acceptable...

And no I don't get paid for this at times nightmare of hanging out on both Priuschat and Insight Central when combined with whatever is currently taken apart in my car port.... I do it 'because I like refining my car and communication skills. But there's always plenty to scream and yell about and I don't plan to stop anytime soon.

Most of the price from @2k1Toaster is shipping costs and that is using smaller cost-effective boxes.

To be perfectly clear, this is an observation, not a rant.

When friendly advice gets viewed as a rant it appears to to be an unfortunate sign of the times where words are considered only as weapons of harm.

While we agree that name calling people is wrong, your notion that name calling the specific words or actions of others is misguided and not supported by the basic reality of how social media rules work. As for words used as "weapons of harm..." That's only true if you're threatening someone or attacking them/name calling them directly.

For me to say that your view of online behavior is overly uptight, weak and small minded is not an attack on you or your character, which would violate the rules on here, but a reaction to your opinion, which is incorrect opinion.

Keep in mind the $200/Kwh price is in bulk in mass production for larger Kwh vehicles. The pack will never (within the next decade or so at least) cost $250 for a Prius. But a lithium pack can be much cheaper than a NiMH pack. Those prices essentially stabilized in the early 2000's after the rechargeable battery craze in the 90's and early 2000's.

Not most, but it is a large percentage. I offset some by combining battery cargo in with my other businesses cargo and splitting the cost. But then I also have to ship to end customers. And I have to pay 25% to the orange man. China is not paying that. I am.

Aren't all the 2 Gen Batteries from Toyota or auto parts companies, All re-manufactured, refurbished? I don't think Toyota has made any new hybrid batteries. Any one know for sure?

No. Toyota actually used the same, but improved (better grade Nickel) modules in my 2017 Gen 4 Prius. The OEM Toyota packs sold for Gen 2 are new.

I think there was a failed experiment a few years ago where some dealers tried selling refurbished packs but they were too troublesome.

All Toyota OEM replacement batteries are brand new! Once Toyota realized how many people were selling rebuilt ones in the $1500 range they contracted to build a huge amount of new ones to drive their price down from $4K in the early days to the $1600 range now, which really made a dent in their competitor's earnings. A brand new pack is gonna be good for a decade or longer. A rebuilt or reman will barely last half that time if you're lucky... This is also why GreenBean is looking at way too much unsold inventory and changed their warranty to lifetime, or at least till the go broke.

    Yes.
    No.
From wherever you have received your information, you are misinformed. Toyota will supply a replacement battery and they only sell new.
Yes. Sad to say, some employees of Toyota don't seem to know for sure.

Another NEW option is @2k1Toaster kit of new cells. At $1600 delivered it is a good option for DIY that basically gives you a new battery pack. The link is in my signature.
