The "Full Test Report" (Test Result Charts) for both tires is the very best way to look at two competing tires in a particular category.

When you study them side by side this way, you'll most likely change your mind Quickly. If not, buy them...

Apparently, some TireTrack URL causes the PC to hung-up when you click on post.

Same car, different size tires between the two of them, so some extrapolation is needed.

Those tests are VERY far apart when put up side by side, so even if you were to extrapolate in favor of the riken, it would still fall way short.

Like I said, if you can justify them, buy them.

Thanks. By looking at just those numbers, seems to be General RT43 are even better tires than Yoko GT. Yeah, if I take this one data point at its face value, Yoko is far better tire than Riken for what they tested. Of course, I would never be driving my car on a wet track and doing slalom. I may never feel the difference in the performance they tested on my daily drive. Problem is, unless I buy both of those sets and put them on my car and drive around for a few days, I would never be able to compare them for my liking.

The problem with the General RT43 (I LOVE* General Tires) is that in almost all important categories, it can't complete with that Avid GT. Trust me, I'd recommend the RT43's in a heartbeat if they stacked up, but they don't. You could "maybe" argue dry grip between the two,....but the Avid GT destroys the RT43 in wet grip.

Like I said, buy the rikens if you believe in them.

    * I run the General AS-05 of both of my Prius's.

No, I have no belief in them. You convinced me it is not a good buy. I just had some hope, that maybe even very low priced no-name brand may be OK as "DD tires".

Over the last ~30 years of owning 18 cars, before the time of internet when we had no way to do comparison shopping, I use to just got any cheapest no-name tires available for the car at a local tire shop when I needed new tires. I can't remember ever having any bad experience with those "el cheapo" tires, but I admit I didn't pay much attention then. I would say I bought maybe 4 or 5 sets at most in this category. Then, after some education and building knowledge, I started to buy the best tire (meaning most expensive) available I could afford, mostly popular Michellin brand tires, Premier was one of those, for our cars. I would say this category had 4-5 sets at most. Then, comes fairly recent years when I started driving a hybrid and became fuel efficiency conscientious. My first LRR tires I bought for HCH was Yoko Avid Ascend (non GT variety). I really liked them on HCH, and it lasted ~5 years and 60K before it had to be replaced. Next set I bought was Bridgestone EP 422 Plus on my old Gen3. This turned out to be the worst premium tires I had ever bought in terms of road noise, wet, ice and snow handling, and treadwear. Only category Ecopia excelled was fuel efficiency. It lasted only two years and less than 30K, before had to be replaced. I had very brief experience with Conti True Contact on my old Gen3 but I sold my car shortly after putting those tires on, so I don't have much opinion on long-term use. I had various winter tires in the past but came to love Michellin X-ice for the last two cars.

With such a small sample of tires I have had the first-hand experience when I need a set of new tires for my PRIME after OEM Dunlop wears out, it's hard to decide what is the best. Then again, now I understand there is no such thing called the best tire for all category. It is always compromised. I wanted to try something different, maybe revisiting the old day's no-name el-cheapo tires as well, with more emphasis on comfort and economy. I will keep Yoko AVID GT on my shortlist, I may still end up with Michelin, but that all depends on what kind of deal I can find at the time. I still have until next year to decide. Thanks again for your suggestion.

An excellent evaluation on how you look at tires, I've bought tires over the decades in a similar fashion. Currently that Avid GT should be on most peoples shortlist based on its wet weather pedigree, but the moment some other tire shines brighter & does things better; then the new tire will be the "go to" tire for that theoretical short list.

I got the Avid Ascend GT the 1st week of May. Took off on a 6,000 mile trip almost immediately. I've driven about 9,400 miles on them so far and I really like them. Many of those miles were in blinding rain and they performed flawlessly.

That's fascinating, I see that dumb warning light almost everyday at ~42 psi now that the daily temps are increasing.

Running a tire that is rated for 45 PSI max. at 65 is just plain stupid. Sorry but it IS.
Unless, of course, you actually have 6 ply truck tires on it.

Isn't there a procedure to reset the "center point" of that alarm ?
If so, that should be done with the tires "cold" and inflated to the pressure you want to run.

I keep thinking of collateral damage, to wheel bearings, shocks, springs, most everything. Tires at the spec'd pressures (or slightly higher, if you've got to) will absorb road imperfections better.

Ran my 2010 prius at 65+ for 105,000 miles before selling it. Got 80,000 miles on original tires. Only things that I replaced on the car were tires at 80,000, spark plugs at 100,000, and windshield wipers twice. That 2010 prius was the best car that I ever owned. The second owner is my son-in-law. Car now has 180k miles on it.

Does he subscribe to the same tooth rattling tire pressures? ;)

That means that you got lucky.
It proves NOTHING......well nothing about the tires anyway.

Running that much over the MAXIMUM SAFE INFLATION specified by the tire maker is unwise.......and implying a recommendation for others to do the same is irresponsible.

And I am simply pointing out the folly of that "experience".
You REALLY should stop doing that. REALLY.
