$250 worth of lumber to build a gate. Kind of expensive, but it's all cedar or PT.

Automakers, this is why we want PHEV trucks and SUVs. Or smaller cars because it's ridiculous that a car which can hold 4.5 people or 1/4 of a pallet of lumber only carries one person 95% of the time.

Maybe he didn't like the interior color and decided to do some impromptu repainting

Oops!!! Friends of ours unloaded their shipping container when they got to Africa and found that a 5-gallon can of paint had emptied itself on their sofa. But I think this just might be worse.

Paint, eh? Ouch. I think I might be buying that rear cargo liner sooner now that I saw that pic.

I didnt think to take pictures. but I fit all the ikea flatpack to completely replace my entire kitchen cabinet setup in mine. 12 large cabinets, all the doors, trim, hardware, and a few extras. Plus my cousin, though he was sharing the footwell with a lot of bags of stuff.

Those plastic 5 gallons pails are notoriously brittle. When I carry paint or other spillable liquids, I put them in a big Rubbermaid the size of a recycle bin. If the liquid spills, it's contained. Learned this the hard way taking some motor oil to recycling many years ago. Big black plastic bin with lid - $8 at Costco. Cleaning up that mess - a lot more expensive.

I will see your loads ... all the stuff in your pic's . . .
    and raise you ... 4 passenger seats, still empty;

    MiniVan.jpg

but if the 5 back row seats AREN'T needed ... then there's even room for 4X8 plywood 'n such.

    plywood.jpg

We can't touch the Prime's EPA, but w/ the Pacifica's ev range of 33 all electric miles (84mpge) & our homes solar ... it's not too bad of a way to run around ... even if the minivan does have somewhat of a 'dork' factor
    :)

Followup: Done. Bought the WT rear cargo liner, along with WT license plate frames (eliminating the annoying dealer advert frames), plus I also splurged on one of their PetComfort 3" rise, dual 8 ounce XL lower mat pet feeding systems*. An free iced latte at their coffee/cookie/muffin bar finished the deal while we were waiting for the order to be moved to the pickup window. They update their store/showroom often, but the old red Porsche farm tractor is still there. New is an awesome Corvette with everything WT they can install in/on it.

This was the first time my wife visited the showroom. With all the man-made rubber and plastic items they have on display, she was very impressed that no chemical smells were present. She is highly sensitive to synthetics.

    * The cats are still trying to figure out why in the world we upgraded their old food bowls. Change is hard.

To be fair, cargo vans and trucks typically can’t carry more than two people.

I learned that I can carry 10ft long pvc pipes just fine in the 2017 Prime. That’s because they are flexible and can be pushed under the front passenger glove compartment. Something rigid like lumber or aluminum pipes would have to be shorter. Probably no more than 8 feet.

I've carried 10 foot copper pipes in mine - sitting on the dash on a towel.

Yeah, but those are designed for carrying large amounts of cargo, and most people aren't commuting to work in one (unless their job involves moving cargo at work).

Maybe my point wasn't clear. The Prius is bigger than we need for commuting, but a little too small for carrying lots of cargo. It's a weird compromise. I already have a SUV for moving cargo and camping trips with lots of stuff. So instead of a Prime I might as well have a much smaller car for commuting and 90% of my driving. The original Insight was probably a perfect size, if they could make it decently safe. Or even something the size of a Miata or an original Tesla Roadster.

I once took my wife's SUV to pick up some materials. They didn't fit so I went back, got the Prius and brought the materials home in that.

Other than sports cars, two-seaters don't sell very well

Is your PRIME Premium trim or Advanced as your profile says. The new OEM parts sell at ~$580 listing price. You can get it around ~$400 online, for example 2017-2018 Toyota Prius Prime Tonneau Cover 64910-47050-C0 | OEM Parts To You

You may find cheaper used on Ebay, or there may be some aftermarket ones, though I am not sure of the fitment. I fond this one on eBay. It says to fit 2019 PRIUS, but not sure if it fits PRIME.

For using retracting type cover that came with Advanced trim on Premium (or Plus) trim, you need to do small easy modifications. Read those threads to learn more:
