Torque pro PID definitions and inverter temp discussions?

    Greetings all! Ok so I set up my torque pro gauges so I can monitor engine coolant temp and inverter temp. On the torque pro PID for the gen II Prius there is what feels like a never ending list of information I can monitor. What I was hoping for was “inverter coolant temperature” what I found was “MG1 INV TEMP” “MG2 INV TEMP” and “CONV TEMP”.

    Question one: what exactly are those?

    So I’m supposing that know the temp of the inverter itself is what I’m really after. After browsing old discussions on the Priuschat way back machine I’m finding that my numbers follow what is typical: around 105F spiking to 140F under hardest use on hottest days. Anyway....

    Question two: I always though that big silver box on top was the “inverter”. Is there more than one in there?

    I’m planning on grille blocking and I want to be sure I’m monitoring the right info.

    While the manual says the Prius has "an inverter", it stands to reason each motor would have its own inverter in that assembly to manage power to it, and that each would have its own temp sensor, since they operate independently. Clueless what "Conv" would be. Does it always track the highest of the two temps? May be a "synthetic" value so one PID gives useful intel ... the hottest temp. I'll add them to my dashboard and see what I can see.

    Hey thanks guys. Yeah I think you’re both right. All three temps are tracked in real-time and follow nearly the same curve and are always within 5 degrees F of one another. We had some 100F weather last week and I never saw it higher than 140 F on any of the inverter temps. Clearly the cooling system still works fine despite 221K miles and 13 years! Yes I did change the coolant with the correct Toyota fluid.

    I’ll post what happens after I block my grills.
