I got back from a week-long work trip, and just tried my 07 Prius to start and its completely dead. Had to take out the metal key to get in (would not recognize the FOB key. No dome light, and no ignition. Is this a simple case of getting a new 12V battery?
    Thanks....

Certainly is possible. What did you find when you checked the battery voltage?

probably the battery, but whether you need a new one depends on age and condition. if it's over 5 years, just buy a new one.
other wise, charge it up and have it tested

Yeah, thanks, called AAA -- expecting here shortly to test/replace. I guess when a battery goes, it dives off.

actually, it can be a long slow slog as well, computers start acting weird, poor mpg's, all kinds of weird things.

mine died after driving 4 miles and parking for an hour. aaa measured it at 4 volts. it had worked everyday up to that point.

It indeed was the battery - changed out and now working. Battery wasn't cheap -$230 -> "due to being a hybrid car".
