I know that there have been similar threads on the site, but I haven't seen one that specifically addresses a loose rear view mirror on a Prius (this is a 2011, trim III with the sunroof option) with the sunroof/solar panel option (since the ceiling is different I'm wondering if the mirror assembly is different, as well). The rear view is loose, but the problem seems to be in the base of the mirror where it attaches to the windshield, not the pivot assembly of the mirror itself. I've seen in some of the other threads reference to a torx screw that can be tightened to eliminate the movement, but mine doesn't have any set screws visible. There seems to be a cover which I suspect slides off of the windshield attachment, probably held in place with a tab/clip. I don't want to start trying to remove anything without having some idea of what I'm doing and wanted to see if anyone has had the same experience. I'd appreciate any help as I'd like to fix the problem myself instead of taking the car to the dealer. Thanks!

isn't it glued onto the windshield?

I am not sure if yours is different then mine, but there is a little tab you press toward the mirror
and then the whole mirro slides up. There is a metal mount that is glued to the windshield.
You can see it from outside the car looking in.
Any automotive store will have the glue to reattach it. Take a magic marker and draw the image
of the outer edge of it so you can glue it in the same spot. You'll need a razor blad to clean off
    the old glue.

I have a 2011 with solar roof, and there is a tighten screw to secure the rearview mirror..

I would take a photo for you, but currently on a 10 day traveling the northeast parts of US and won't be home until Monday night..

Let me know if you still need it then..
    Good Luck!

There is a small metal plate that is glued to the windshield. Then the mirror mount slides onto that plate, and is tightened to it with a little set screw.

So if the mirror mount is loose on that plate, tightening the set screw should be all that is needed.

If the plate has come unglued from the windshield, there are re-gluing kits at auto stores.

I've never seen one of those glued plates get "loose" though. I've either seen them just fine, or completely fallen off the windshield.

So my guess would be that your looseness is just in the mirror mounting to the plate, and the set screw can be tightened.

Or it’s one of the infuriating disconnects of Toyota engineers. Best fix: a dab of UV hardening glue where a gap is. It will never have to come off unless your W/S is replaced, then tell the tech to use the right size tab.

I've never noticed a significant problem. I think I did tighten mine once. The car's a dozen years old and has traveled about two-thirds the way to the moon. I'll give the engineers a pass.

Totally agree. My mirror would shake with bass heavy EDM music. Quick tighten == good to go.
