    1. The clunking noise seems to be the CV Axle. It has a lot of rotational play. Strange enough, I can't find any repair videos or tips on replacing it on a Gen 2, only on the Gen 3 and 4.
The video from 1A auto shows them replacing it by only unbolting the bottom 2 bolts on the strut, the factory service manual shows the tie rod and lower ball joint coming out. I take it I can take the "shortcut" by removing only those 2 bolts on the strut?

    2. How hard is it to access the refill location for trans axle fluid?

    3. Sometimes on a hard brake, I notice my traction control light comes on and the car feels like the brakes went to the floor. I have brand new tires so it's not a skid, dry pavement, etc. Brake fluid is a touch above the "min" mark. Could I have a failing ABS module? No lights on the dash.

    4. If I lock my car with the fob, it will automatically unlock using the smart key system. However, it does not seem to lock when leaving the car after a minute like it does in the owner's manual. Is there some kind of reprogramming that needs done?

    5. I have an annoying dash squeak coming from a silver trim piece on the left hand side of the driver's area. Is there anything I can do to minimize this?

    6. Is there anyway to adjust the hood? I tried loosening the bolts, but there is no space around the bolt holes on the hinges. The car was in a small parking lot wreck before I bought it, and the hood is tight against the headlight on one side, I'm just worried it will crack it.

I'm not sure what it says in your owner's manual that gives you the impression the car will lock when leaving it, but to lock the car with SKS you need to press the button on the door handle or press the lock button on the remote, otherwise it will not lock.

What it might say in the manual is when you press the unlock button but do not open a door within 30 seconds, the car will automatically lock itself again. The time period is programable from 30 to 90 secs (don't quote me on that, though?), but the important take away is that after the defined period the car will re-lock, if a door is not opened when the car is remotely unlocked.

    I believe these are cause-and-effect.

When you hit the brakes, the car tries to use regenerative braking. This harvests the momentum of the car and converts it to electricity to be stored in the battery. In order to get that power, torque is transmitted from the wheels through the CV axles and back into the transmission. If you’ve got a bad axle with a lot of play, then the computer may be having a minor freak-out because it doesn’t know about the slop in the axle- it thinks that’s a patch of ice. The normal reaction is to cancel regen braking and engage the regular friction brakes. This causes the pedal to feel momentarily ineffectual, and then you get braking afterwards.

In other words, fix the axle and this problem might well go away too.
