With the latest Tesla software update, I wanted to test cross country travel by driving 116 mi to "Damn Yankee Wiskey Bar" in Heflin, AL:

    • Two headed, L2, charging station
    • Sea food and Dixie cookin'
    • Good beverages
    • Prices a little high but proportional to the quality
It turns out the new Prius Prime is owned by one of the employees and about 10 minutes later, the owner showed up in his new Prius Prime. He took the handle from the fully charged employee car and everyone was happy. But like many commercial L2 chargers, good but not like home charging:

At home, I get 240 VAC at 31 A, ~31 miles per hour. But commercial power is split from three phase so the 207 V is within the range and the 30 A could be an EVSE limit. Regardless, it means a little longer to get a usable charge.

Inside, there are lots of beverages and they have RV parking in the back:

    • Top shelf whisky on the right
    • Gadsden flag on the right with modified "Live Free or Die", New Hampshire motto
In Dixie, anyone from North of the Mason Dixon line is a "Yankee." A "Damn Yankee" stays.

I had to destination charge once at a hotel, overnight. Hampton Inn , Liberal, KS. There was a problem with the 4 tesla chargers. They were only putting out 208v @ 12 amps (9 mph) fortunately there were also 2 32A L2 J1772 available. They were working properly. 208V@32A equaled 25 Mph charge rate. It had to charge 11 hrs overnight to get up to the level I needed with a 15 % buffer to make the next SC (Tuccumcari, NM.) I had arrived at the hotel with 11 miles remaining on my M3p. Temps in mid 50’s in late March on my way to AZ.

In this case, I stopped at Oxford AL for a 5 minute change that gave me a 35 mile buffer.
