    Hi Craig B.

    Thanks for the message.

In my opinion, you won't gain much by getting a nice component set in the rear as well. I just did because I found 2 sets of JL C3-650 components for a great price. Plus, sometimes my friends sit in the back and I want to keep them happy.

The midrange sound from JL component rear door speakers don't really make it up to my ears.

However, the OEM paper speakers w/foam surrounds in the car are crap. If you didn't want to spend the dough for nice components in the rear, I would still replace the rear door speakers with some decent Alpine co-axials. Being how shitty the OEM speakers are, moisture and abuse will probably render them unbearable to listen to in a few years. Might as well replace them now!

    Good luck.

Thanks very much Grren4ever. That sounds right to me for the rear doors. I will just get coaxial speakers.
Also maybe I missed this in your previous posts but for the front door component speaker kit the tweeters
go up on the dash near the windshield right? In other words the speakers on the dash near the windshield are
    not a separate tweeter pair?
    Thanks! Craig

Yup, you are right. the OEM front components in the Prius have just the midrange driver in the door and that driver's high frequencies are connected to a tweeter near the windshield.

Actually to get a little more technicial, the wire that feeds the signals to your front speakers actually goes from your head unit to the tweeter first. Then from the tweeter, a wire feeds down into the door and powers the midrange driver. I'm not sure why the Prius' wiring is like this.

Send me a PM if you have any other questions.

    CHeers,

Update: I just got a 3 month free trial to Sirius XM Radio today. Oh boy...the car is a rolling jukebox now. I will have plenty of fun listening to all these satellite stations and can finally tune into the music that I like while I am stuck in traffic.

There has been some criticism about the low sound quality of the music from satellite radio but being an audiophile myself, with $5000 2-channel Hifi system in my home, I can say that it is hard to tell the sound apart from CD's, unless you are listening to the stations playing oldies from the 70's and 80's.

    Hi zoeboi954:

My alpine bezel kit came with a plug-in module that allows me to keep the use of steering wheel controls. The integration is not perfect though. The steering wheel controls don't function in the ACC mode; only in the ON position.

Looking forward to seeing your install.

Let me know when you plan on selling your Prius, I may be interested just because of the head unit,, Just kidding :)

Hats off for the time & money you spent, you should be enjoying it a lot now :)

I switched from TSX to Prius, I miss the sound in TSX, it was Pioneer unit, pretty much decent, but Prius doesn't seem that bad.

I must say rear speakers do not the sound the same as in front of prius ;), not sure why.

Hi Grren4ever. I have just seen the post for the amazing system u put in..how long have u had the system in the car for now and did you upgrade anything in terms of the vehicle power I.e bigger battery or capacitor. I am wanting to put in a system in my car which I have started buying but I'm sceptical in case I damage the inverter. I understand that the Prius has a 100A inverter but I'm not sure how much power I can draw from the small battery without damaging anything.. the system I am wanting to put in is as follows: 2 Rockford fosgate T1693 6×9s in the front doors with 2 DS18 120B tweeters in the tweeter slots at the top of the dash powered by a pioneer GM-D9705 amp pulling out 4×100 watt rms to power the tweeters and the 6×9 and 600w rms to power a 12 inch alpine type R sub in a custom box. The recommended fuse for the amp wiring kit as per the owner manual of the amp is 100 Amps.. but am I right in presuming the amp wont be drawing out 100 amps as the amp itself has 3 30A fuses in it. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated from everyone. kind Regards.

Total system output is 1000 watt rms. Can the stock battery and inverter handle that especially if I add a power capacitor on it aswell?

    Hey there....thanks for msg.

I've had the system for about 5 years. Your amp's specs are not that far off from mine. My advice is that you'll be fine without a bigger battery or capacitor. I'm still using the OEM battery in the trunk with no issues.

The little battery in the trunk is what my stereo amp is connected to. Somehow this little battery is connected to the larger main battery. The little battery will not get depleted from your amp drawing too much juice because its tied into the larger battery.

    Good luck!

Thanks ever soo much for the reply as this was a very big concern of mine.. as the recommended fuse for the amp wiring is 100 amps would u say its adequate to put that in or should I put a smaller one on just in case to protect the car. What fuse have you got in your power wire from the small battery if you dont mind me asking..

Grumpy old driver here reminds you to turn down the volume when you drive by my house, and hopefully Mr Grren will think about carbon impact and recycle the numerous boxes and styrofoam and other waste accumulated during this project.

I don't remember what fuse is in there. I will need to open up the luggage covers and check. I would imagine a 20amp fuse? It's been a while since I've tinkered around with the car. I am selling the car in the next few months!

Thanks for the message.. my car has the factory JBL system..its a Prius gen 3. I have also ordered the metra speaker adapters for the front doors. The 72-8104s. I have ordered the sub and amp and tweeters but I am awaiting delivery. If I was to use the metra adapters for now on my Rockford fosgate T1693 6×9s would they give me the full range of sound in the front doors for now or is the sound split between the dash tweeters and then only the lower frequencies are transferred to the door 6×9 as currently all the highs are coming from the dash speakers. Would it be the same with the metra adapters or would I get the whole sound from the 6×9s
