No official "support" shown on the comma.ai site, but I'm going to guess it's 100% as compatible. I wonder if anyone knows if OpenPilot takes advantage of the Prime Advanced proximity sensors or not - couldn't find this information anywhere but it looks like it does not... trying to get an assessment of what OpenPilot can do and it looks like mostly stay in line but not much more. Lane switching may be coming in the future but not too optimistic as blinkers are mechanical and lack of sensor data and side cameras couldn't assure there isn't a car right next/behind you.. I am seeing a lot of people report that the Prius stays on or reports errors when using the OpenPilot system.. would appreciate some comprehensive review and compatibility discussion.

Yes, it's possible to get it working on the 2020 by adding the fingerprint for your car. I opened a pull request to attempt to get the 2020 Prime officially supported 2020 Toyota Prius Prime Limited by illumiN8i · Pull Request #813 · commaai/openpilot · GitHub

No, the proximity sensor data is not currently used, but there has been some discussion on Discord about using them in a future version of openpilot. There has been some work in the community on accessing the data from the side radars which are used for RCTA, so that may be an option. Blinker half press may be controllable via software since it's already a configurable option in techstream.

Prius is a very well supported car for openpilot and will continue to improve over time. The issue you mentioned about the Prius staying on is due to incorrect giraffe switch configuration, which should no longer be an issue since comma.ai now sets the switches for you before shipping. Once openpilot is set up, the experience should be quite error free, but there is a strong community around openpilot that can help if you run into problems.

This is great - do you have any tutorial / resources / experience @ Prius + OpenPilot to share? I'm on Discord, just feels like a war zone there - too many channels with no clear organization so it's hard to follow any past/open thread discussion.

Sure, reach out to me on Discord and we can discuss further. I mute all the channels I'm not interested in to keep the noise down. Good news! Comma.ai just accepted my pull request to get 2020 Prius Prime Limited officially supported.

Am new to both Prius and Comma.ai. Just bought a 2020 Prius Prime.

Could someone please help me figure out what are the items I need to buy from comma.ai?

I learnt they introduced some newer hardware in recent weeks and am not sure if I get EON Dev Kit it includes newer hardware.

Hop over to the comma ai store, "Buy for your car", "Connect to your car", click accordingly, order, download discord, join the toyota channel and start learning.

I wish it's that simple. 2020 Prius Prime is not yet on their site.

You can ask in the toyota/lexus section on discord, doubt compatability is any different.

2020 Prime is on the supported cars list here on github. You can select 2019 Prime for now since it's exactly the same. I'll try to get someone from comma.ai to update the list on the shop.

Good news! The list on the comma.ai shop has been updated to include the 2020 Prius Prime. Feel free to message me on Discord if you have any difficulty getting the kit set up on your car.

This is great! I have so many questions lol. Like others have said, the discord channel feels like a war zone, difficult to follow.

I am a Lexus/Toyota master and well versed on CAN/LIN etc. I personally drive a 20' base prime and love it, I do about 700 KMS/week of hw driving and something like open pilot seems like a non brainier but I can't close the gap on price/value because I can't find very exact Information on what the system can and cannot do. Everyone seems to be like "yeah I love it" "can't imagine driving without it" etc. But I want factual info on what the system can do and it's limitations. If you can message me pointing me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. I feel I can do great contributions and I'd love to help out!

Feel free to reach out to me on openpilot discord and we can discuss the technical details and limitations.

I have a prius c 2013 base model without cruise control, i know that it's not on the support list. Is it possible to get it work with openpilot? My understanding is that openpilot needs car with cruise control.

No, not possible. For openpilot to control your car it must have lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.

    @illumiN8i

Is there a configuration to mount the device off center? I am thinking which is the best suitable mount location to prevent blocking the view out front.

People have experimented with alternative mounting but centered is recommend. It should still work fine placed as high as possible while slightly covered by the rearview mirror.

Is there an install guide specifically for the Prime? I didn't see it on comma's site. I don't know if I just tug down on the camera module cover? Don't want to break anything.

Install should be roughly the same for all Toyota. I've never heard of anyone breaking the camera cover yet. It takes a bit more force than you would expect to remove the cover.

I got my comma 2 and installed it today. Upon starting it says Dashcam mode Unrecognised car.

I read something about fingerprint problem. How do I fix this without manually SSH in to change some files?

    I have a base Prime 2020.

I can help you add the fingerprint for your car. Send me a direct message on the comma.ai discord channel and I'll go through the process with you.
