I'm speaking of reliability. He mentioned green bean battery.......... not everybody can test and replace batteries them self.... if they could there wouldn't be rebuilt battery packs for sale.

It depend on your car condition, I just have same situation now, I bought a low cost 2007 prius high mileage with hybrid battery problem for 4 weeks now.

you know what, It has many hidden problems that seller won't tell me.
I know electronic,so I am fixing the old hybrid battery but I got scam at by Ebay seller losing money and waste my time. Finally I get some good battery cells locally, while waiting, I find a used Hybrid battery for $250 from junk yard (no test) after 8 hours work for me, car is running.
    - Car has multiple heavy leaking at rear end, everywhere, I seal some area but it is still mild leaking.
    - All rear windows defrost lines bad
    - all tires mix brand.
    - FOB remote unit is not working -- not as simple as change battery, big headache... very expensive, looking to fix it for $200 DIY.
    - 12 volt battery is dying - This battery is very expensive $250 vs car battery $100, I work really hard to find a cheap New 35AH AGM battery to replace it for $30US plus $3 hardware.

Car was serviced by very low quality mechanic before, Why? It miss many screws, nuts everywhere.

If you are owner of your car, you probably know car condition, you can make decision on it.
For AC, Did u try to charge up your AC? It might just need re-charging.
If you are good hand-skill with electronic background, you may fix your Hybrid battery yourself dirt cheap, I bought 3 used good battery cells ($18 each) as back up on other hybrid battery pack.

Exactly. We just moved to a very warm desert environment with a hybrid battery pack that was close to failure three years ago. The Prolong system helped it last but it has been showing some weakness quicker over the last year. Knowing it needed a 12v, major service and a new HV pack we had to weigh investing about $4k in it or try to replace the car. Knowing what we had in the driveway, it made more sense to fix it up in our minds. After a lot of searching we just didn't think we'd find anything this good for the $4k + trade-in value. Repairs done, we should be set for years to come.

Each car and situation is different but it is definitely worth the effort to see what else is available for the cost to fix your current vehicle. The tougher part is trying to anticipate other things likely to go wrong with either the Prius or the replacement.

Sort of. The battery cooling fan for the Traction Battery pulls air from the passenger compartment. If the passenger is comfortable (windows open), then it is probably fine for the battery. Michigan rarely gets over 100, so it is probably fine. Arizona in the summertime without A/C would be pushing it.
