I have a 2007 Prius I'm trying to get ready for sale. I've had a lot of issues with it over it's lifetime. Repaired MFD, replacement 3 way valve, new hybrid battery, new catalytic converter, and now the key fob stopped working.

I've looked online and have replaced the lithium battery in the key fob twice and replaced the aux 12 volt battery. I had the 12 v go dead after letting the prius sit for a few weeks, and I believe that was related to this issue. I've also made sure the sks switch is in the right position. I've played with popping it out and in, closing doors, disconnecting the 12 volt for a while, etc.

I got techstream up and running and tried to get some initial information. The prius only came with one keyfob when I bought it used. The techstream screenshot makes it seem like the main key is disabled, but I'm also unfamiliar with the software. Prius has 205k if that matters.

I was thinking about trying a re-seed, but the keyfob was working before and stopped working from one day to the next, the lights still come on when I press the buttons.

Could it be the SKS module. What should be my next step? I'm also trying to sell the car, so some things may simply not be worth it. :(

I went through tonight and could not find them. I clicked on trouble codes but found none. I searched around all the tabs that could be related to it but couldn't find anything related to the users. Do you have anything more specific? master_key_diag.png

I tried disconnecting the 12 v battery for 5 minutes this morning, didn't make a difference. I also really tightened down on the ground connectors on the battery.

I also took apart the old key fob. I bought a replacement case for it. The circuit board looked new, no corrosion or any other obvious issues to indicate there was a problem with the fob. I also went around the back of the car and unplugged and reconnected all the sks recievers I had easy access to. Still no luck, but the key fob transfer was a success. Light still comes on key fob and car still turns on. I think i will try a reseed tonight using techstream. If that doesn't work I may just have to sell the car as is.

Well, I didn't really get many replies to this thread, but for anyone searching, I sold the Prius last week as is. The new owner purchased 2 new virgin keyfobs and was able to get them to bind with the system using his brother-in-law's hand held unit. However the old keyfob simply didn't work in spite of having a functioning red light. My father also tested the keyfob and it did put out a signal.
