I installed the Toyota 6 cd changer in my 06 Prius PKG3 ( type 2 - non JBL system/non navigation). The MFD does display the CD Changer, RPT, RNDM, SCAN and they work.

The radio buttons and steering wheel controls also control the cd changer.

The problems I have that I cannot see or change the Disc# or track# on the MFD. I can visually see and change thet disc at the cd changer, but it does not seem right that I can not see what track is playing.

    ------------------------------------------------

Gave up trying to make this work. I am returning the CD changer. I will get an aftermarket unit with one of the Soundlink (VAIS Technology) adapters.

Making this post so you guys dont go thru the same aggrevation.

I would presume that you added a separate OEM changer that connects to the aux port in the back of the HU (Radio). I hope I presume correctly.

Can the disk/track be changed from the steering wheel using the up and down buttons below the volume control buttons? Holding those buttons down for a second will change disk, a momentary press will change track. I believe you may have answered this, but I want to be sure.

The dealer should subtitute the changer with another, and try the replaced changer in another Prius to see if the problem follows the original changer or stays with the display. If both Prius show the same thing with 2 different changers, then that may be how it is with the OEM changer unfortunately; the type 2 display may not have the code to show the separate disks, though it should show the tracks.

By the way, does the changer show up as CD 2 in the mode selections, where CD1 is the built-in CD player? Does the built-in CD player show the tracks?

Oh, and if you live in the Tampa Bay area (you don't have a location in your profile), I'd be happy to try your changer on my car. That may prove inconclusive though, as I have a JBL integrated changer, and your changer added to my system may cause a conflict.

    Thanks for the response DanMan32.

The CD changer (part number 08601-47800) and wiring harness (part number 08695-00370) do connect to the Aux port of the the Head Unit. After connecting the wiring harness to the CD changer, it has 3 different other connectors but only one fits in the Head Unit. I think the other connectors are either for Satellite Radio or are used for other type of cars ( I dont know).

Yes, the steering wheel controls and the buttons below the volume control all work ok.

I live in CA and bought the CD changer on the internet from a Toyota dealer in Illinois ($160 below local dealer cost). Thanks for offering to let me try it in your car. Unfortunately we are 2000 miles apart. I will try and find some local people to see if I can do that. My dealer wants $98 dollar diagnostic fee. Maybe there are others in this forum who have the same setup and will answer my question.

The CD changer shows up as "CD Changer" and the CD shows up as "CD".
As I mentioned there is no info on CD Disc # or CD track number when playing the CD Changer. I do get Disc info and Track titles when playing from the CD.

Darn, I wish I had read this before having the optional 6-disk CD player installed by my dealer.

For what it is worth, I have experienced the same problem and disappointment with my dealer installed changer, and I guess your experience answers my own question about whether or not the 6-Disk changer interterfaces with the MFD. The operations guide also makes reference to messages on a Head Unit Display, but I haven't a clue what that might be.

Since my unit was dealer installed, I wonder if it would do any good to go back to them and complain.

Go back and complain I did, and what they eventually found out is that there are two wiring harnesses required, but the CD Changer only ships with one, which carries the audio and interfaces with some of the MFD functions. The second harness is what carries the track information. The second harness is on order, so I can't confirm that this issue is resolved, but I will report back for the benefit of anyone else searching this site with the same problem.

I returned the CD Changer for this reason. I bought an IPOD and the DICE unit and now are having the same problem with not displaying title/artist/song information. Can you please update on what the verdict was?

Got my DICE problem resolved. I could get the music but no track title, artist , album info. I had to pull radio fuse, install DICE, and reinstall fuse. Apparently the Radio need to initialize before recognizing the DICE unit. The DICE unit work now.
