07 prius hybrid,check engine light on after coolant flushe and gurgling sound in the heater core.

    Hi everyone and thanks for the help. After I watched different videos on how to change/refill coolant for the inverter and the combustion, I decided to it on my 07 prius with 126000 miles, after I finished both I took it for drive and check engine light came on p1150, plus I hear the coolant gurgling in the heater core's lines when I came to full stop or when I start the car.. left the car all night and next morning checked the coolant level and everything I've touched and everything looked fine but still I have same 2 problems, any idea will help.

    What was your process to get air out of the engine coolant loop? (It apparently did not succeed since you can hear air bubbles in the heater core.)

    Basically, you need to run the coolant heat storage pump to circulate coolant through the engine coolant heat recovery system path and get the air out. You also need to run the engine at high RPM for 10 minutes or more while the cabin air temp is set to MAX HEAT and the fan is at a high speed, to circulate coolant through the heater core and get the air out of that path. Keep at it until you no longer hear air bubbling in the heater core. Keep the radiator coolant level full. Check the coolant level at the radiator after the engine cools down (do not rely just on looking at the overflow reservoir.)

    After you get all of the air out of the engine coolant loop, if DTC P1150 persists, then you will need to replace the engine coolant flow control valve. That valve controls the flow of engine coolant to the cabin heater core vs. the engine coolant heat recovery system.

    You did not get all the air out of the engine loop.

    I used a funnel that just fit into the RADIATOR opening and kept the level at least 2" higher than the radiator opening while the engine idled. This can take as much as 30 minutes, even if you have already bled thru the bleeder screw.

    Guys,thank you for the fast reply especially Patrick because I followed your steps to perform the coolant flushing/refilling except running the coolant heat storage pump(by the firewall on the driver side) I tried to jump it up by taking the 12v relay out and used a volunteer as someone did it but no success and didn't know how to bridge it by a paper clip, so I started the engine with heat on maximum and high speed after 4 quart refilled with open bleeder and squeezing the hoses unroll I finished the rest of the coolant.. I think my problem is related to the heat storage pump and all I need is to figure out how to start that pump ON with the engine OFF and get the air out through the bleeder and the radiator cap off, right???

    Get the engine fully warm, ensuring that the coolant is FULL in the radiator and overflow. THEN put the radiator cap on, turn off the engine and allow to cool fully. Rinse and repeat.

    M in KC, thanks for the videos actually I had my phone right in front of me when I did the job the only thing that I couldn't do is running the pump by the volunteer.
    05 PreeUs the first time I started the engine after filled the whole full gallon of coolant with heater on high and HI temperature until the engine warmed up and getting hot air from the heater I started to fill the other 2 quart of coolant slowly then closed the bleeder and the radiator cap then I turned the car off for couple hours then check coolant level I had to add a little bit then took the car for drive and that when check engine light came on and I heard the coolant sound under the dash before I shut the engine off. I tried to bleed the system again next morning with the bleeder open and the cap and squeezing the hoses ,there was some bubbles came out..
    Is there any way to run the pump with the engine OFF??? And there's something else I noticed the HV Battery getting full green after the inverter coolant flushed , before it will get green but still there is one empty cell!!! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and help.

    I will try to reset the check engine light and drive it today and see if there's any changes.

    How do you reset it?
    I'm having the same check engine light issue with my 2006 after replacing the coolant. The coolant level rises when then pump kicks on, but then goes back down after it shuts off. I don't think I wan to to fill the overflow tank all the way, right?

    You use a code reader to reset.
    Possibly you still have air in the system. But also, it is normal for the coolant to expand a little if you have the cap off.
    Correct, just fill it to the "Full" line.

    After driving for a while today, the check engine light no longer comes on. I can only assume the coolant finally got where it needed to go. I'll check again tomorrow, but hopefully problem solved.

    Be sure to remove the radiator cap every morning for the next week, when cold, and check the level. Top-up as required. Once the level is stable, you can revert to just checking periodically.
