I like anachronisms, they make life interesting whenever one is spotted in the wild.

 

Be grateful you actually get the big screen in your US / Canadian Prius Primes.

For so peculiar reason I am yet to be appraised of, our UK Prius PHEV equivalents come with the standard smaller screens found in an ordinary Prius.

Any present model Prius PHEV buyer in the UK should feel short changed!

He who has bread shall have no teeth, he who has teeth shall have no bread . the above saying sounds very close to the Toyota policy for equipment and options... for instance, in my country you can have only a Prime with solar roof and black fabric interiors, 7" screen with NAV, no HUD, matrix adaptive LED, ACC... that's it.
Now, I really miss the HUD that in US you have in certain trim levels; however, I would never trade it for the solar roof, or the matrix LED, which viceversa in US are not available.

 

The Prime plus model in the U.S. has the small screen.
I like it just fine when I use it, usually on the 2017 ECO screen showing the prius electrical usage,
or the home screen.
I've used NAV a few times and it works well for me, as long as I don't expect a garmin without having a garmin when I want garmin capabilities.

The 2020 Prime LE (U.S. base model) also has the small screen but the MID has changed with carplay and other additions.

I think I've seen one or two posts here that like the new updated MID.
But more seen to be complaining about it, at least from what I've read here at PC.

 

And even with all that there's no way to see how many EV miles you've driven.

And anyone in the northern hemisphere who drives east between the hours of 15:45 and 16:45 right now knows what it's like to be blinded by that screen. I can't imagine what it's like for the people with the larger screen.

If it was a BEV the odometer would tell you how many EV miles you'd driven.

 

It seems like a trivial thing, but it's really not. For example, the ICE needs service based on how much it's used. If I need to change my oil every 5,000 ICE miles, I need to know when that is. Say I did the first 25,000 miles based on odometer miles under warranty. How can I tell when I've driven another 5,000 ICE miles after that? The only way is to track mileage AND EV ratio at each service and then calculate using something like:

I = (A2*(1-B2)) - (A1*(1-B1))

Where:

I = ICE miles since last service
A2 = current odometer reading
B2 = current EV ratio
A1 = odometer reading at last oil change
B1 = EV ratio at last oil change

Toyota flubbed this one (or intentionally obscured the data to encourage more frequent service visits to the dealership). The fact that the car can calculate the EV ratio is proof that the EV mileage is being stored - you're just not allow to see it.

I think that hybrid service still needs time for the mechanics to adjust, especially at the steelers.
Not saying the steelers don't have the ability to service, but sales and warranty service are what they are in business for. And making an entirely different service schedule for the hybrids and plugins is probably asking too much from the "sales critters" LOL and the rest of the steelers help. It would be nice, it would also be nice if service for out of warranty was a bit more realistic than it seems ( to me anyways ) to be.

I also think that Toyota, like most other car manufactures have a decent handle on exactly how many of their customers take notice of service schedules and work orders and work performed. And make their service recommendations based on very general best practICEs.

My advanced shows EV ratio for current trip and the three trip meters, so why isn’t it enough to just use one of the trip meters to ascertain the period you are interested in. I believe warranty service periods are based on overall miles and time, not EV miles.

 

You have three trip meters? I only have two: Trip A and Trip B. Trip A is miles since last fill-up and Trip B is current trip tracked across starts. Even then, the EV ratio leaves a pretty wide margin of error. With a ratio around 80% I'd drive around 25,000 miles for each 5,000 ICE miles. The issue is that since we only get an integer percent for EV ratio, 80% can only tell me that the ICE mileage is somewhere between 23,810 and 26,300 (49.8% margin of error) .

 

I'm not aware of a way to use the odometer to tell miles driven with ICE since the last service, other than the formula described above. Am I overlooking a feature?

 

If you are overlooking something, I haven't found it yet either. I just noticed I'm 75% EV at 156 mpg since new. It's on trip B since one day while I was pushing the trip button and the same button on the other side of the steering wheel, I reset the Odom trip by mistake. Even though trip B flips back to 0 at 10k it still matches the Odom - minus a couple tenths of a mile. I thought that was kinda odd the first time I checked the trip meters.

 

Thank you, but if I use "Since Last Reset" to track ICE miles between service I will lose lifetime total EV ratio.

 

Then use trip A or B.
