I see that the original oil filter housing (15620-37010) has been superseded by156200T010. Does anyone know what the difference is?

This is a very safe way of getting under a car using jack stands and rear wheel stoppers! Love the tree stump for added security. All it takes is one time and injuries can be very serious.

Next time, invest in changing to the spin type. It is so worth it. This is where I got the info:

The 2016+ Toyota 2zr Engine oil filter conversion - Armstrong Family Blog

Here are the parts- Part numbers: Bracket- 15609-0T060 O-rings- 96723-24020 Union- 90904-04006 Filter- 90915-YZZF2

    Keep this for future reference.

    Nice job!
OTOH, I just bought some hockey pucks from the sporting goods store to put on top of the jack and jack stands. No muss, no fuss.

That would be very nice, and a LOT easier. But at over $100, not worth it, at least not for me.
That's a LOT of oil filters, and drain plug seals. :)

Maybe someday I'll check a junk yard for a blown Corolla engine and take it off one of those??? :)

... but compared to the spin type, I still do enjoy just producing a little pleated paper and an O ring as waste with every oil change ....

So you don't think that the spin-on one has a very similar pleated paper element inside? -- and there's a rubber ring (although not an o-ring) on the bottom of the spin-on one. And I don't think the metal part of that spin-on is going to get recycled.

I do think the spin-on has a pleated element inside, and a rubber ring. But I think I'll stick with the original cartridge design, thank you, so the waste I produce with every oil change doesn't also include that metal can.

I was thinking of that too -- or from a later Prius. But did they change on the later Prius? I had had the impression that people were saying that they changed to the spin-on kind on later Priuses, but I see that the later part number filter housing (15620-0T010) fits Priuses at least through 2017 (and Corolla through 2015, and Matrix from 2009 on).

Once you move up to the 4th generation Prius, you'll be right back to the metal cans taking up landfill space again.

I "think" the 4th generation Prius' have the spin on, at least it started in a certain year. But I am not
certain. I believe I read it in one of the post about the kit a year back or so.
I'm sure someone here remembers, or knows.

When I first saw the kit, I was ready to get it. I figured it would be $50 or so. Which was a bit much,
but still half from what it is now.... so I lost interest.
After the first time I changed the oil, the housing comes off easy for me. Because I don't tighten it to
6 million yard pounds!!! I only snug it, and the clip helps to keep it in place.
I think I will soak it in oil for a bit so the filter an absorb the oil so maybe the light goes out quicker.
    It's worth trying once anyways.

I got poo pooed on the other thread, they said the clip does nothing, not even restrict the filter from
    Unscrewing.

Even though I plan to drive my prius to the ground, I still won’t put in the spin on adapter. Not that I worry about putting metal cans of filter into landfills, the filters are actually keeping oil clean so it’s doing the same job as spin ons. Also it will be an additional cost to buy the adapter kit and then the spin ons will do the same filtering job just like the insert filters.

I have better things to do with $100 than that filter thingy. :)
The "clip" have a purpose, or it wouldn't be there. WHY would they spend the expense of
developing it, making it, and making a spot for it????
With the removal tool I have, it will press the clip out of the way. But laying on my side, it's hard
for me to keep it on so it keeps that out of the way. It only takes 2-3 seconds for me to remove it,
and the same to put it back on. With it off, the tool fits easier.

This is what works for ME. If it doesn't for someone else, then do it the way that works for "them". :)

Last oil change I was hoping to reduce the waste even further, thinking I could snip along the length of a pleat, uncurve the whole thing, put it between the jaws of a vice and squeeze it almost oil-free. Sadly, that's not practical: there's plastic substance at the inside diameter, impedes things.

Still yeah, for various reasons, I'm in the "if it's not broke" camp. For one thing, I'm reluctant to start doing serious mods to a car that'll be traded or sold in a few years. An Oil Catch Can I've done, but that is relatively easy to remove.

I've got some ideas about that. Mostly, I think it's similar to the reserve beep: the engineers came up with something innovative, a bit quirky, then shortcomings were noted (real or imagined...), and to appease the notees, patches were applied. I've done somewhere around 18 oil changes, and I've completely forgotten about that clip, lol. It does nothing.

Just because you "think" something does nothing, doesn't mean it doesn't.
Maybe it just means that it's doing it's job so well, you don't notice it! :p

    It's a butterfly in a tornado...

For breaking loose the filter housing I use an 18", 1/2" drive ratchet wrench and heavy stamped steel socket: that little doodah of stamped steel beside the housing is brushed aside, boohahah... :coffee:

This. It may indeed have a job. It might even be doing its job perfectly. It's just a job that has nothing to do with me changing the oil filter.

If its job had anything to do with being in the way when I change the filter, then the repair manual would probably say "notice: remove the oil filter bracket clip when removing the oil filter cap assembly." ... instead of saying what it does say, which is:
