Purchased an OBD cable from Amazon. Neither cheap or expensive it had a 4 star rating and the latest firmware version. Had to download the Techstream software from sellers site. I may just be stupid but I don't understand the very brief instruction sheet downloaded. I THINK the software and drivers are installed. When I check devices it shows a Com 4 and a USB serial adapter. Those appear when plugging in the cable and go away when removing. Instructions say to run "Firmwareupdatetool.exe" . There is no such program on my windows 7 , 32 bit laptop and doesn't seem to be part of the software download. I cannot find it on the website in the 32 bit download directories. Also when I run Techstream there is no Xhorse MVCI option, only TIS Techstream VIM the instructions say not to use. Thirdly, the software does not accept the supplied key. It doesn't' do or say anything. The registration screen simply reappears asking for the key over and over. Finally it instructs to use the default user type "Dealer/repairer with other words". My default is "Corporate User". One of the other drop down options is similar to what they say the default should be. I'm mightily frustrated. Contacted the provider with the email address supplied with questions but there is no reply after several days. I'd like to make this work rather than return it. I have googled and searched here for help to no avail. Any advice or guidance appreciated. I'm including a picture of the brief install instructions.

I have successfully used TS on an old XP Laptop. I set it up a couple years ago, so it's not fresh in my mind. But my recollection was that the success rate for getting it to work was higher when going the XP route as opposed to newer operating systems.
There was also a very detailed step by step install/set-up procedure that was posted -- I believe -- on a Tacoma forum.

Well I finally found and got the xhorse driver installed. Not the vendors site but elsewhere. Still will not accept the key provided to register. I assume I need to be offline though I tried both on and off. Anyone know if or where I can get a working registration key?

Hacked version you buy online with cheap device doesn't have a software key... Last I was trying to get it to work, I found an online forum for Toyota trucks that was the most detailed, as well as most popular go to place to make techstream work... A couple things I remember is it's function depends on the .net framework updates and upgrades, also you need to air gap the computer, meaning no internet access because if the software gets online Toyota servers will identify it as hacked software and shut if down. Hope that helps?

Thanks to everyone for your feedback. I located a blog that let me download a version that did not require a registration key. I ran it and it indeed does not ask for a registration key so more progress. Wife is out in the car so I'll try and see if it will connect tomorrow.

This thread seems to have the driver downloads to make it work on an OS newer than XP:

Techstream TIS VCI Installation Guide (64-bit OS) Including All Software Needed! - Page 2 - Scion FR-S Forum | Subaru BRZ Forum | Toyota 86 GT 86 Forum | AS1 Forum - FT86CLUB

    Correction: Tundra forum, not Tacoma.

I kept getting the "Unable to connect VIM" error. I was also getting a non-Techstream prompt to update Java. I dismissed this thinking it didn't matter -- I was incorrect. Problem was that Oracle no longer supports Java for Windows XP, so you can't download it. However. after some digging, I found what I needed on the "developer" section of their web site. I had to register and acknowledge that I was using an outdated version of Java, and doing so at my own risk. (No big deal.)

I have those files Java files and can provide them if you need them.

It is a royal pain to set up techstream! Losedoz is a royal pain on it's own.
Now you have royal pain squared!
I contacted their tech support and some guy in china logged on and set it all up.
It took him about 2 hours!!!
So far it's still working for me.

But when you get pirated software, that's the price you pay.

I wondered myself. Thought I had overlooked something. I successfully communicated to the car today. It's taken me many hours on and off over at least two weeks to get this far. If I consider my time in would've been cheaper to just buy a new programmed key from the dealer.

Why not contact their tech support, or whoever it is from. Maybe they can help you.
The first thing I did after it was working, I hooked it up and changed the idiot back up beeping,
I thanked them and turned off wi-fi. I would never connect to the internet with a lozedoz machine.
    It is WAY to unsecure!
The poor guy was doing all kinds of crap trying to get it to work. I actually felt sorry for him.
I did give them a great review and thanked the guy.

That's the first thing I did. They never replied. I noted that in my Amazon review.

Mike = I have been struggling a LOT longer than you. Good thing I am retired.
Firmware Update Tool does not work on an x64 system.
Some x64 systems will connect to the car thru the mini-VCI adapter. Mine will not.
I am running it on a laptop with W7 32bit. I am running V14.30.023 = you can download it here
Toyota TIS Techstream V14.30.023 V14.20.019 V14.10.028 Free Download & Win7 Setup | Car Diagnostic Tool
and get the reg keys from TS All Versions activation
If you are going to try to run it on a x64 system you will need to install the mvci-x64.reg file.
If you have it running on x64, please tell me what versions of software and drivers you are using.

Not sure if this is a viable option but I had a spare old laptop laying around and I purchased Windows 7 32-bit off eBay for $6 and installed it on the laptop.

I got the Techstream software and xHorse driver installed but only half the features were appearing. Tried different software versions from 10 to 14 with various installation procedures (replacing the main executable, punching in a registration code provided on a separate text file, etc.).

What finally worked for me was trying a ver. 7 software someone posted (this thing won't let me post a link until I make one more post) . Was the most straightforward install but you had to choose Europe as the region (says in the included instructions PDF).

I used it on my Prius 2011 to run the health check and see the brake ECU version, but I don't know what a ver 14 software can do that this ver 7 can't.

Was your version 7 software 32bit or 64bit?

    Hi Mike,

i wonder if you can help me i recently bought this version here in the UK VXDIAG Techstream V15.00.02 VXDIA
the site was Sales site OBD11tool co uk

and had to send it back because it pained him the seller to even write more than one sentence each time he got around to replying back to me to the point that i sent it back befoe the 30 day money back expired. It came with the soft ware disc that loads the VX manager etc. but looking on Y tube it seems with demonstrations that are too quick to see what exactly you do in which you have to load x horse and have x86 programme files which i must have accidently deleted on my 8.1 windows and even then would not know how to execute the task. Do you think if i could get my little sony 13 inch XP 32 bit laptop going that might help some what as it states on the sales page with a slightly more expensive V15.00.02 VXDIA requires OS windows XP or 7 Any valuable information or links would be good thanks. Peter

I wonder why some enterprising chap hasn't starting selling old laptops with compatible cables already loaded with techstream online
