i am looking to buy a 2007 prius and the dealer claims that as of today 9/14 the tax break is half of the original $3200. they also said the break runs only until the end of this month then nothing. is this true?

Absolutely FALSE..... If you get the Car by 9/30 in your hands... the Credit is the full amount... After 9/30 it drops down , and doesn't go away until well into next year and even then the Congress may reinstate the program again.
If you can get one by 9/30 then get it.
You can search the internet for the actual IRS Form 8910, and see for yourself.
You will hear on this forum all about the AMT issue, I will leave that for the skeptics, most people will get the full tax credit.

The 2007 Prius isn't on the list of qualifying 2007 models yet, but I can't imagine why it won't be. It's going to be the same car as the 2006. It's only September.

No the 2007 does not qualify for this credit. That's still in Congress...

 Look around... Elsewhere in PriusChat it has been commented that Toyota has not yet sent the appropriate documentation to the government regarding the 2007 Prius. I believe it a safe bet that the Income Tax Credit will be available for the 2007 Prius in the amount of $1,575 to which amount the current credit will be reduced beginning October 1, 2006 continuing through March 2007.

As usual  , some post incomplete or incorrect information without researching the subject.

Are you familiar with the idiom about people who live in glass houses?

    Just wondering.

This is incorrect information. Congress need do nothing to allow the 2007 Prius to qualify for the current credit. The current law provides that Toyota must make a certification about the 2007 Prius to the IRS and that the IRS must acknowledge it. Once that is done, the 2007 Prius will qualify.

Thank you all for your replies. I have solved the problem by getting (in just 3 days) my 2006 red prius package 3 and the whole tax break. Happy Days Are Here Again........
