Prolong Deluxe Battery Reconditioning set for Gen II (04-09 Prius). I purchased this set for $675 in 2017 and reconditioned my battery. It worked wonderfully and I never had any battery issues since then. Unfortunately my Prius was rear ended last week, so I no longer need these, but would like to see them get used by someone else! Asking $350.

    Includes:
    (1) Charger
    (1) Smart Discharger (not the light bulb)
    (1) Free battery cell included (if you have a bad cell you need to replace, you can use this, normally costs $40)
***Harness not included; this costs $150 and you can order it from the Prolong website here Prolong® Battery Systems Car Harness - Discharge Ready - Hybrid Automotive

Buyer pays shipping. Located in 49506 zip code. Feel free to call or text James at 801-746-9518. Asking $350.

This will also work for a Gen3 since the harness has to be purchased ;).

And the intelligent Discharger I do t think came out til early 2017 as I bought one of the first ones Jeff made back in February of 2017:).

Good luck with the sale as that’s a great price. Maybe @mjoo would be interested since sorta local(y).

How’s it working out and how many times have you used the equipment ?

Glad you got a setup though to keep the old “experiment” running(y).

It works great. I've used it for at least 3 full reconditions so far. Seems like I regain a little capacity each time I cycle. Which reminds me - I'm due for another round of maintenance.

To potential buyer: this product is definitely worth it for keeping battery performance and restoring your hybrid battery.

I had a cell failure in my hybrid battery in May 2017 (2007 Prius at 165,000 miles). I purchased this set, replaced the faulty cell, and after the standard reconditioning process everything fired up great. I ran the balancing every few months, and the full reconditioning twice a year. Have never had any issues. It ran great, got rear ended at 193,000 miles in November 2019.

This is just one data point, but it worked perfectly for me. Way, way, way cheaper than the $4,400 the Toyota dealership wanted to put in a new battery.

I always scheduled our old 2010 for 2 cycle reconditioning on thanksgiving and Easter ;).

Had long breaks at work so it was ideal:).

Definitely in a 2 car household this method went without life interruptions (y).

A more cost effective option for @priusdon would be to chat with @SFO and @The Critic and see if they would want to co-own;).

Since his location appears to be local to us Bay Area folks(y).

thx for the alert, already sold by the time i saw. fired up the ol prius for an ikea trip the other day, and got up to full green for one part of the trip without a sweat, so maybe i am good for now, despite a few ~1mo breaks and the ~2mo one I had that killed my 12v.

a shared tender would still need multiple harnesses right? (or the pain of de/re-installing...). but yeah, things like this of somewhat high cost low usage frequency ripe for a tool rental style market otherwise.

    Hi Priusdon,
Yes, the design of the Prolong harness requires it to be hard-wired into the traction battery (for safety purposes). It is not time or cost efficient to install then remove the harness for a one-time use.

Unfortunately quickly going full green (8-bars) is not indicative of good traction battery health on your Prius. Quite the contrary. A dying traction battery will tend to show full green then drop precipitously to purple rather quickly. This is the result of several dying cells dictating (limiting) the capacity of the entire battery due to their temperature increase (from higher resistance) when charging. The traction battery tries to limit the heat produced from charging and will considering itself “full” even when several of the cells are no longer functioning as anything but heat generators. Heat is the battery’s worst enemy. You can read more about traction battery health by doing a search on the board.

After using the Prolong grid charger on my ‘04 w 165K miles, I found the battery rather consistently staying between 6-7 bars of charge over 4 months of daily driving. I’ve experienced 8 bars only twice in that time and purple bars once (by keeping the A/C on while parked during a hot day).

Mojo, I did not know enough to look for the case sticker showing the build date when I installed my Prolong harness but noticed the case seems factory original and not obviously opened or molested. I certainly didn’t have the gumption to take apart the battery at that time to check the cell manufacturer date. This Prius is “new to me” one year ago and without problems.

I would agree this car is running unusually well on the traction battery original to the car. I called a Toyota dealership to see if it had been replaced under Toyota warranty but they said they don’t show records of that under the VIN.

it stayed mostly in the blue zone during the drive. i had it turned on at the start, idle in the driveway, i think it started in the green because of the emissions system warmup cycle having no other power need. then momentarily in a low speed traffic jam part of the drive (not slow enough to have ICE off but not enough demand to use up all the ICE power). how do you test for the precipitous drop? do the AC while parked/idle thing?
