Hello! I would love to add a oil catch can to my 2016 gen 4 four touring.

I have looked it up, and it seems it would be very beneficial to use, even without the Prius having a turbo. I figured it would help with the pcv, egr system and keep the intake nice and clean. I figured later on down the road it would keep the system a lot cleaner, and the benefits would far outweigh the $100-$200 cost (for quality).

has anyone does this yet with the gen 4? Would it effect anything negatively? From what I’ve read nothing but benefits, except having to drain it basically every oil change, which I think is fair.

Have a look through the throttle blade, see what lurks beyond. If it looks like a shiny black mirror, you've got a pool of goop blown in from the Positive Crankcase Ventilation circuit, and what you're seeing is only the stuff that lingered, didn't get sucked into the combustion chamber for another go 'round.

so in other words wouldn’t it be very beneficial?

If you don't have goop pooled under the throttle body, then probably not. I'm not sure how many members have bothered to check theirs at this point so it might benefit everyone if you check it out and report back.

I only see engine oil under it.

That's mostly what it is. What were you expecting, lol.

I drain mine spring and fall: fall it's mostly engine oil, spring it's about 50/50 oil and some evil-looking water-based substance.

With an effective Oil Catch Can installed you'll see a sheen of oil at most, instead of the 2~3 mm pool.

I still think it would be beneficial, whether a little or not. Even if it catches just some, that’s some that could of been saved from gumming up the engine
