    Welcome to PriusChat!!
Have you already tried pushing the small button on the top corner of the seat?

Also try pushing (or maybe pulling) on the seat back while depressing the button, this may help relieve pressure on the latch.

Does the drivers side button depress to the same depth as the passenger side button?

No, I think it is a broken shaft. Is there another way to get to latch?

    Yep.

They can get finicky. Pull the plastic surround around the release button off. Then lift the button and pull it forward before pushing it down. You can feel when the button hits the right spot.

I have learned a couple of tricks after replacing a few hundred batteries.;)
