Was there ever a campaign or recall for the engine (belt driven) water pump?

    I did some googling and searching on this forum as well and I saw multiple mentions of the service campaign for the inverter water pump but I read in a few places online that the mechanical pump (belt driven - located on passenger side of engine) also had a service campaign.

    Is this true?

    I can’t find such a campaign, recall, or bulletin, only Safety Recall C0U and bulletin T-EG001-07 (PDF) for the hybrid electric water pump, and bulletin T-SB-0087-08 (PDF) for the coolant heat storage water pump.

    Bulletin T-SB-0117-11, “Water Pump Inspection and Diagnostic Tips” (PDF), applies to many Toyota models and just describes a few situations in which it is not necessary to replace the engine water pump.

    Toyota’s Electronic Parts Catalog shows that the part number for the engine water pump assembly on second-generation Prius cars was changed twice (from 16100-29155 to 16100-29156, and then to 16100-29157), but it doesn’t explain why. These changes don’t imply that earlier versions were defective; they may have been made for reasons of cost reduction or compatibility with other Toyota models, for example.

    your water pump only lasted 14 years? there should be a recall or extended warranty

    Lol it is quite comical when I read on Toyota forums where many think there should be a recall or some sort of remediation from Toyota when something breaks, no matter the mileage or time involved.

    Meanwhile, on the European car forums I used to be on, you should sort of ‘expect’ an automatic transmission to fail at around 150k.

    Very easy to extend the life of that pump just maintain the fluid. I think if you remove the break in fluid it will be good for a long long time maybe the life of the car.
    It’s that break in wear that gets you.

    If you change everything at 15000 miles it will greatly extend its life and may not ever need to do it again.

    Engine coolant
    Inverter coolant
    Trans fluid

    I’ve changed all those at break in and have changed them all subsequently and they all showed very little wear on this car, especially the trans.
    But must get that break in out of there especially the inverter fluid.

    Of course motor oil is ongoing.

    With all due respect, you've contributed so much positive info to this forum, but your assumption here is incorrect and not contributing anything beneficial to the thread...at least Elektroingenieur's post was trying to answer the original query.

    Way to pile on with the useless assumptions here. I didn't say anywhere how long my pump did or did last, all I asked was was there a warranty or recall campaign. You guys are making assumptions instead of helping out a fellow Prius owner that has a straightforward question..

    I'm not expecting anything except maybe a relevant answer, maybe more like what Elektroingenieur posted above. Thanks for helping a fellow Prius fan.
