Driving home from friends who live way out in the wilds of New Hamster, I was proceeding cautiously (not cautiously enough, apparently) in a southerly direction when to my surprise, look who ran across the road:

No bits (of ChuggyPyg or Bambi) laying in the road, or hanging off; only thing to show is a slight crack and a rather prominent dent. I daresay Bambi had a sore leg next day! o_O I think myself to be very lucky that it wasn't a moose, or I wasn't traveling at highway speed!
ChuggyPyg has a couple of "deer-whistles" mounted on the bumper, but they only work above 30mph, so at the speed I was driving (~20) I guess they were about as useful as the proverbial "one-legged man at an arse-kicking contest"! o_O

Ouch! I spent the weekend thanking Gawd (…or whoever) for the fact that (a) it wasn't MrMoose, (b) I wasn't doing highway speeds and (c) that Bambi didn't come in through the windshield! (I guess I was lucky!) ;)

lucky you were going under 20 mph (y)

my daughter will attest that at 55 mph, there isnt even time to step on the brake.

I had a similar incident in Michigan many years ago and a rental Impala:).

    Bambi didn’t survive:(.

But I was able to get a car wash and some duct tape and re-affix the fog lamp into position without the rental company being wise to it;).

The rural Midwest in the fields is a land of opportunities in regards to wildlife:eek:.

    Just stay alert(y).

Well, I hope your daughter didn't have any long term after-effects of her encounter! I spent the rest of my journey looking out for wayward Bambis, but once I got onto the interstate, I just made sure that I had a pathfinder; no, I'm not a tail-gater, but I thought that any Bambis out that late on I-93 and Rte-3 would encounter them before me! I hope she was OK, but five grand! …sheeeeesh!

After I graduated high school many moons ago, we went in a trip from northeastern Pennsylvania to Toronto and at 4 AM just outside of Scranton a semi met a deer:eek:.

It came from underneath the truck and toward our car:oops:.

We ended up running over it and you could feel it pass under the floor boards. My friend who was driving asked: “was that insulation”?

I said no and we pulled over. No damage or wires cut, just a lot of blood there:sick:.

We kept on the trip and when we got to the border, we spent several hours at the border crossing:rolleyes:.

    But we made it through(y).

she and her passenger were well protected by the prius. i was impressed that she was able to maintain her composure and slowly work her way over to the brake down lane

I just did that very same drive a couple of days ago (Toronto to Allentown). Thankfully, no Bambi were in the roadway.
