Yeah those fasteners don't grow on trees.

I would bring along a flat blade screw driver, one of those bent-tip paint can openers (this is my usual tool), and a conventional fastener pry tool (last resort, when the head is pried up but it still won't release).

And best have a few of the two kinds of fasteners. There's two type 5 at the back (larger, grey centre caps), and the rest are type 3 (regular size, black). The type 4 are just couple of locations, joining plastic-to-plastic, and aren't a factor when you remove the full panel.

Those part numbers may be superseded, but a dealership parts dept should be able to sort you out.

The type 5’s end up never coming out for me (or the dealers for that matter).

So I usually end up with a zip tied end ;).

Not the end of the world (y).

My #5's are ok except the centres pop right out.

The wings brake off of the ones I’ve done and then you have the remainder sitting there staring at you with no way to extract it:mad:.

When I started the maintenance on our 2010 after dealer servicing and found that, I didn’t feel as bad when I noticed it on others;).

But I at least install a zip tie solution to hold it up:).

@The Critic calls me a hack, but at least I try(y).

True, but you understand that lost transmission oil changes are done by professional shops, and they store all sorts of fluids and lubricants.

How can they store lost fluids and lubes if they can’t be found?

Alright, I guess I'll get some. I did some googling and I found this on ebay. Not sure if this is it though since it seems a bit expensive if one clip cost about almost $1: Genuine Toyota Fender Ledge Cover Upper Clip 90467-07215 | eBay

Also looking at the diagram on Genuine OEM Splash Shields Parts for 2010 Toyota Prius Base - Olathe Toyota Parts Center it looks like there are at least 10+ clip slots.

@Triparadox do you have floor jack or ramps? If so, maybe just do a dress rehearsal, take off the panel and see how it goes. It could be your fasteners are fine. Still, if it's never been off, maybe not so much...

With regular removal and cleaning, the fasteners will last almost indefinitely. I know...

That pic I posted up the page, item's 3 and 5, are what you need if any are broken.

If this is the same meet up, I can bring some. There’s about 100 of those clips in a bag that’s in my stash. And will bring my clip removal tool also.

Ok, I'll take note of that. I personally have never taken those off but it might have been taken off by the mechanic when they changed the head gasket.

I think it's the same... the one with @Raytheeagle

OEM clips and fasters are sometimes absurdly expensive. I do oil changes on three cars, our Toyota and Nissan and my son's Honda. If I try to buy OEM clips that have to be replaced during service for all three cars, it would cost me a fortune. Reusing clips are not always possible. I ended up buying bulk clips from Amazon or Ebay that contains various size clips and fasteners. As long as the diameter of the pin and length is similar to OEM, it will work.

I found Rexka clips and retainers are as good as or better than OEM.

Not sure what you mean. The part numbers are per the TSB screen shot I posted. Still, it can be a crap shoot. I've ordered a few spares with those part numbers from Amayama (have very few mail order options up here), will see how they go.

On my car all the fasteners are still present and largely functional; a few are missing a tooth, and on the larger 2 at the back the centers tend to fall right out, that's about it. That after maybe 24 removals/installs?

The last 4 or 5 digits are different. Just don't want to get the wrong one.

Maybe referring to comment #119 How to Change Your Transmission Fluid | Page 6 | PriusChat.
Mendel's TBS on #122 is specifically for 2010 PRIUS, so those parts numbers are the correct ones?

There are three types of clips:
    • 11 plastic to thin metal (Part No: 90467-07201)
    • 2 plastic to thinner metal (Part No: 90467-09227)
    • 1 plastic to plastic (Part No: 90467-07166)

When removing the panel there are two (of the above) pin styles used, with different part numbers. Maybe that's confusing @Triparadox ? Refer to the TSB pic (up the page), for which goes where.

I think too, just to keep it interesting, there may be some supersceded part numbers. Maybe Toyota switched suppliers, the new pins are slightly different shape, but functionally the same??

It's fine. Guess I'll just try to get the one you recommend. It's cheaper after all.

There are three types? Now I'm very confused. Does this means I have to buy all of them?
