My wife just bought a 2006 Prius (with just a little help from me). She'd been researching for a while, then after a test drive just felt it was the right time to move. She telephoned all the dealers within about an hour's drive in the Phoenix/Scottsdale metropolis and found a handful of available 2006 models.

With one exception, all dealers were friendly and helpful and upfront about their price expectations. Asking prices were from around $1k to $2k above MSRP, with a variety of dealer-added trash (tint, fabric conditioners, etc). Within 12 hours she had found the color (silver metallic) and package (#6) closest to her requirements and the deal was cut within an hour.

Price negotiations with 3 dealers showed that the current price is close to or just above MSRP with a little wiggle room, and that the trash additions were easily negotiated out, but there is a pre-October 1st rush pinching supplies.

One dealer wasn't straightforward in his dealing with us and won't get our business again!

I am also from Scottsdsale but purchased my Seaside pearl Prius from a dealer in Mesa settled in at MSRP. My father in law also in Scottsdale bought one from Mesa dealer as well.
Dealers seem to think they can charge up to $2500 over MSRP because people in Snottsdale have higher income. I prefer the honesty on my dealer, who also lurks around on this website. (Hello Paul).

We bought from the Toyota dealer in Superstition Springs - even further out than Mesa! The north Scottsdale dealer (our local one) was fine to work with and was close on price, but just didn't have the right car. The south Scottsdale dealer really screwed us around and gave us a most unpleasant experience that we won't repeat!
