Hello, when should we expect to see trailer hitch options available for the 2016 prius? I have a bike rack I want to get on there.

U-Haul site doesn't currently have an option, unless you drive to Tempe, AZ and let them custom fabricate something over several days.

I would love to do this as well, hopefully Kurt Hitches or the like can figure out something.

I just recently got interested in a trailer hitch for a bike rack. I went to U-Haul and they had just what I was looking for. Sportframe 1 1/4 inch Rec (Powder Coat) for $105.00. I'm going to let them install it for me for $65.00. found a bike rack on Amazon that looks like it is all I need, for $140.00.

I fabricate HIDDEN trailer hitches for small cars - most of my customers want them for bike racks and for the hidden feature that keeps it out of site. I was able to measure a gen3 and a gen4 Prius recently and fabricated hidden hitches for them.

You can see photos of how my design works. It mounts hidden and only when in use will the hitch receiver be shown and can be disconnected when not in use and stored.

im looking for someone with a Prius gen3 or 4 willing to provide pics as im looking to update to a new website.

Example from my site - 350zhatchshocksandmore

    Thanks,
    -J

I've got a Toyota OEM removable ball hitch fitted to my 2016 4th gen.

Is that what you want, or are you looking for the American style receiver hitch?

What pictures do you need? I'm happy to send you anything that I can get, but I'm not into taking the bumper off.

The Toyota installation instructions can be downloaded if you need to see how they mount it.

I put one of these on mine. It took about an hour and a half. There are some good videos to show you how. You'll take the bottom plastic off, detach the proximity sensors, pull off the bumper, disconnect the bumper rebar, slip this in and bolt the bumper rebar back on. when you replace the plastic under cover you'll have to cut a hole for the hitch. It tucks up under nicely.

I wish someone offered a 2" hitch for the 2016+. I was unhappy with the amount of bounce, wobble, and flex in the 1.25" bike racks i've used in the past, and using the 1.25"-2" adapters just makes the rack stick out that much further and drags on driveways and speed bumps, not to mention makes it 10x more wobbly. I ended up fabricating my own 2" hitch for my Gen 3 prius and loved it. SO much stronger and sturdier than the 1.25" racks, and now I can use the same 2" racks on both the prius and the truck. Now that the Gen 3 is totaled it looks like it might be time to fabricate my own 2" hitch for the 2019 as well.

the one I've seen on Etrailer is rated a solid 10/10 on their "difficulty scale". Yipes. Videos make it look like a royal PIA. Not sure whether to tackle it myself (I work on my own old cars and all that plastic stuff always disintegrates, end up using bailing wire), or have someone do it and live in fear that they hacked it up.

Mostly want a cargo tray to keep big light items like shop cart, storage box, bikes, etc out of the air-stream, plus a place to carry messy items. Buddy swears by throwing his work boots in the back of open pickup so they can get well air-blasted on the way home.

It's not all that bad. I think their scale might be a little "off" for people that are even the slightest bit mechanically inclined. Takes a few hours and an extra set of hands for 5 minutes of it, the rest is just one foot in front of the other. My vote is to tackle it yourself. ;)
