Found this super strong neodymium disc magnet with a nickel plated steel housing. It ideally fits the small flat spot on the end of the spin on Toyota 90915-YZZF2 filter.

This is how it looks in place on the filter.

Has anyone ever cut a magnet-attached filter open to see if the oil pressure is preventing the particles from accumulating? Or if it really does work?

Ive seen some yuotube videos doing that, the particles were stuck to the side of the can with the magnets still affix to the oil filter can. Most feedbacks were "the particles will eventually be caught in the pleats" so magnets are not needed.

Has anyone cut the filter apart AFTER use and kept the magnets? :)
The filter is SUPPOSE to catch those bits, and a good one will. NO reason to have a magnet on the filter.
The magnetic drain plug is a much better idea. That should stop the bits before they circulate.

No need to cut the filter apart. It works like those magnetic parts trays that are available everywhere.

Magnetic iron-steel particles can be so small that the can pass right through filter media.

They don't make a magnetic oil drain valve like the Fram "Sure-Drain" or the Fumoto.

Not sure what "they" you are refering too, but THEY do make a magnetic drain PLUG:
NEO CHROME ANODIZED MAGNETIC ENGINE OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG/BOLT w/ WASHER 12X1.25 | eBay
A good filter will block the particles, that is what the filter is supposed to do.
If it doesn't, why have the filter, what is the point?

I have used the magnetic drain plugs for years.
A small amount of fine particles I have found attached to that plug.

Good question about cutting open a filter with a magnet attached.
Never the less, if affordable, I see no harm.

FWIW I have seen mention of using a "super magnet" sourced from a junk computer
as a free magnet to attach to a filter case.

To really make this a benefit beyond what a regular oil filter does, you'd want the magnet to be placed in an area where oil pressure is lowest and after the oil has been filtered... Putting in some additional plumbing between engine and oil filter would probably be the easiest way to do that. But maybe just buying an electric motor for your car and get rid of the gas engine entirely?

:) Did you mean where the oil is lowest? There is only pressure after the pump. :)

While the oil pressure for the most part is constant...
What I mean is the oil travels around inside the engine and places where there are sharp turns or narrowing of flow would be a bad place for a magnet to grab metal dust. But in areas where the flow of oil spreads out, or in nooks and crannies where oil pressure barely reaches would be an ideal place to pull metal dust out of the oil with a magnet.
