Yes, never easy making a decision. I forgot to say in the last post - yes, I agree that the old taillights are more convincing than the new ones.

What I always do is a PRO/CON sheet. In the old days, on a sheet of A4 paper for each of the potential cars, but used a Spreadsheet last couple of times, that way I could compute running costs as well with a number of potential candidate cars.

I could never decide if those (pictured) were supposed to be 1930s art deco diner or 1950s jet exhaust plume.

    Yeah I already did that:

    Prius Prime Limited Pros:

Little to no gas usage at around 20 - 25 miles per day 100% city driving ~$100 a month with my current car.

Better styling - LOVE the way the rear taillights and headlights look on the prime. Also way fewer incandescent bulbs.

$4500 tax credit - Mostly just makes up for the price difference between the two cars.

    JBL Stereo - Tunes

Navigation - Like having built in navigation. Even though I usually use Google Maps/Wayz I like having built in navigation in case I'm in the middle of nowhere without cell reception.

Satellite Radio - Like to have the option even though I don't really use it anymore again due to cell phones.

    Prius Prime Limited Cons:

Power driver's seat - I've had problems with the power seat in my current 2020 Corolla which has almost the exact same seats as the Prius and it's one of the reasons I am getting rid of the Corolla.

Large Screen? - I think it looks cool but I think it's not terribly well implemented and I'm sure it will be more expensive to replace if it breaks outside of warranty. Also I don't like not having physical AC controls. - Also kind of a con.

No AWD - Don't really need it but again nice to have and I would rather have it than not.

Less trunk space - really not that big of a deal.

Very difficult to find in the Southeast - May have to travel to get one. Also due to the fact that I'm working with the dealership I bought my problematic Corolla from I am kind of stuck with them unless I want to pursue a lemon law claim on my Corolla or if can convince them to just take it back.

Rear hatch and front bumper potentially very expensive to fix - The carbon fiber, acrylic and lighting is really cool on the Prime it is way more fragile and expensive to fix than the more traditional components on the AWD-e

AWD-e XLE with Advanced Technology Package Pros:

Price? - More than made up for by the Prime tax credit so maybe actually a con.

Smaller screen - I have a similar screen in my Corolla and it's actually quite good. I also think it looks somewhat better than the huge screen which in my opinion already looks a bit dated.

Physical AC controls - If I ever need to replace the headunit it's much easier to do so when the AC controls are separate.

Manual drivers seat - Probably less prone to problems based on the fact that the manual passenger seat in my Corolla is absolutly fine while the power driver's seat is giving me problems.

AWD - Again don't really need it but it would be nice.

More trunk space - The Prime has enough but more is always better also flatter when you lay down the rear seats.

Much easier to get my hands on one as there are numerous AWD-es in stock on in route to my region.

AWD-e XLE with Advanced Technology Package Cons:

Worse gas millage - Still almost 3 times as good as what I'm getting now.

Higher price? - Technically a lower price but no government discount.

Worse styling - I HATE the look of the refreshed taillights.

No JBL - I like having a better stereo.

No navigation - I really like having built in navigation just in case.

No satellite radio - Again I like to have the option.

Ideally I would want a AWD Prime with Navigation, JBL Stereo, satellite radio, smaller screen, physical AC controls and a manual drivers seat.

That's the idea - then if you can't decide on that list - score each point and add them up. Including a potential "MPG -> lifetime $$".

And if that doesn't work ...

Yes - I like them. There are lots of weird lights - you just take what you get. Some seem weird for the sakes of being weird, I believe that PRIUS was to indicate a Lightning Bolt.

VOLVO XC-40 I noticed recently - not sure I liked it, but not the worst around:

Just picture you're rolling up behind this, and what's your take on on it. Aesthetically yeah: 50's diner. Too, to me at least: they don't look legit, substantive, I mean, I don't feel like I've rolled up behind a car, a car that's slowing or stopping. Looks like some kinda shrine??

I get what you’re saying but I still think the newer ones look way worse. They just seem unbalanced. The top half that extends along the side of the car is almost twice as wide as the part that extends onto the hatch. It makes it seem really top heavy. Also the clear section looks very strange sandwiched between the red part of the light and the black of the lower glass. I think the car only looks good in white or red because those colors hide the strange tail lights a bit more than the other colors.

I don't disagree; I was more surprised than displeased to see them include such deep retro influence in the styling.

I think the tall lights look dorky from 2016 to 2018.

Moreover, they are placed in a way to ensure a lot of owners will have more expensive repair bills to replace lenses. But, first and foremost, they're laughable, and that's why they were refreshed with a more conservative-looking tail-light lens.

But I'm basing my opinion of looks on the tail-light lenses. The actual lighting? I have never seen what my brake lights look like, nor the reverse lights.

    I think:
    1) Tail and Brake
    2) tail, indicator and reverse light
    3) tail lights in their glory!!

BMW's new oversize kidney grilles are awful

    upload_2019-12-7_16-2-5.png

    As for Nissan's new GTR:
    upload_2019-12-7_16-5-0.png

And TOYOTA's C-HR has got about 25 styling themes they tossed into a churn and out came ... eek.

Purchased a new 2019 Limited with moonroof (CP Package). For all my searching, this is the last 2019 in red with the Harvest Beige interior and moonroof. It wasn't the best evening for photos!

Those are just alloys, no wheel covers?

Yes they are. No insets or anything. With the "Convenience Package" (not sure why it's called that), the XLE or Limited adds the moonroof and 15" alloy wheels (replacing the 17" wheels with the black "insets.") This option package is not available on the LE or L-eco, so in other words, one must buy an XLE or Limited to get a moonroof.

My wife wanted a red Prius with a moonroof, and a not-black interior, and the Moonstone interior is very bright, and wasn't attractive. So, we had to go to another region of the country to find this (Harvest Beige) combination, as our Northeast region has almost exclusively AWD Priuses, the moonroof being unavailable on the AWD model. But it was a fun challenge!

And we do prefer the refreshed tail lights.

can you photograph yours at night with the taillights on? Trying to work out what they look like to a following vehicle.

What's the issue with Corolla seats? I tried to search but didn't find specific issues with power seats. What year? I'd think this would be something that easily gets picked up in consumer reports surveys for Corolla and prius. For what it's worth, almost every car I've had came with power seats, the only problem was in a then brand new corvette. Seat would short and kill the battery. No more Chevy for me.

I had no clue there was a third option in interior colors.

Black suited me fine to hide dirt, moonstone would have driven me nuts.

These are the interior colors, from the 2020 Prius brochure. The black interior is by far most common.

Oh man... I wish we could have bought our c with a light grey or beige interior... That would have been awesome.
